Refrigeration Engineer

This hands-on role will primarily be responsible for new product development, internal application testing, and training for heat pump water heating systems at the Watts Fort Worth facility. The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable in the office, laboratory, and factory.
This position reports to the Development Engineering Manager.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Subject matter expert on heat pumps and refrigeration systems.  Assist Aftermarket Services group in training and troubleshooting heat pump products.Develop new heat pump water heating products as a member of the New Product Development Engineering team.Visit customers to provide on-site troubleshooting of product or service problems.Work in the Engineering laboratory to test and further develop heat pump water heating systems.Participate in ongoing development trainings both onsite and external.Participate on cross-functional, new product and problem-solving teams as necessary.Perform other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

BSME/BSEE, BS Engineering TechnologyPrevious experience working on a product development team for HVAC or refrigeration productsPrevious field experience in the heating or domestic water heating industryKnowledge of electrical/electronic systems, communications, controls, and hardwareMust possess a valid driver’s licenseCandidate must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship

PREFERRED SKILLS

5 years’ experience in the HVAC or commercial refrigeration industryExperience with natural refrigerants a plusEPA Section 608 Refrigeration Technician Certification required, Type II or Universal preferredGood communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills

MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISION:

This position has no direct reports, but leads teams, directs activities of team members by establishing priorities, monitoring progress, and assessing the work of team members towards goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership abilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in both an office and shop environment.  For work that is performed in an office, the noise level is usually moderate i.e., business office with computer printer, and light traffic.  Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are not hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. When in the shop environment, conditions vary based on the area and project.

PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS

Frequently requires problem solving, analyzing and interpreting data, and extended focus.Position requires sitting at a computer screen for extended periods of time.Understanding of deadlines within a fast paced environment.Ability to compare and evaluate possible courses of conduct and act or make decisions after various possibilities have been considered.Ability to make effective and sound decisions having significant impact on the business.Regularly operates a personal computer and express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.Occasionally walks, stands, bends, squats, climbs, kneels, twists, power grasps, performs fine manipulation, push and pull, reach above and below shoulder level, lift and carry up to 25 lbs.Individual will work in and around equipment and machinery in a shop environment and walk on uneven ground.Exposed to excessive noise, dust, gas, fumes or chemicals and requires use of protective equipment as needed.
