Job Description
Gilead Sciences, Inc in La Verne, California is seeking a refrigeration mechanic that has 10 plus years of experience who performs repairs and performs preventative maintenance on refrigeration systems; examples being stand-a-lone chambers, walk in chambers, chillers, cooling towers etc.
The following functions are considered essential for successful performance in this job description:
As a refrigeration mechanic, you will be part of the maintenance team and perform the necessary preventative maintenance programs for the La Verne Pharmaceutical Facility.Respond to maintenance emergencies in all La Verne’s facilities and assist in making major or minor repairs as needed or directed.Potentially work with construction and maintenance contractors to ensure refrigeration integrity is maintained within the facility.Work is performed based on job plans scheduled through Maximo.Work may require work from heights and close enclosures using ladders, lifts and scaffolding.Good written skills are necessary to properly fill out executed preventative maintenance activities.Share night/weekend/holiday work on a rotating, weekly basis with other employees in the department.Works may be independently or with others on different projects.The following are potential maintenance work that one might be asked to perform:
Troubleshoot refrigeration systems on the site and perform the necessary repairs.Replace faulty refrigeration parts.Be able to read blueprints, job plans, turn over manuals in order to perform your job as a refrigeration mechanic.Attends trouble calls for emergency repairs refrigeration systems and equipment.Inspect systems and their components (e.g. air conditioning, heating and refrigeration units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety and identifying necessary repairs and providing an ongoing program of preventive maintenance.Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning / refrigeration systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and replacement needs.Clean air conditioning and heating units (e.g. coils, condensation pans, drain lines, cooling towers, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring units are operating correctly.Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety and operational concerns.Knowledge requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent plus a minimum five (5) years’ experience supplemented by studies or other vocational school OR Associates Degree plus a minimum of four (4) years of experience.Knowledge of standard practices, tools and terminology of the refrigeration/HVAC trade and refrigeration theory.Universal Refrigeration License is a must.Ability to assess and repair complex maintenance problems using tools, materials and procedures involved in building maintenance and custodial operations; ability to make repairs to refrigeration and HVAC systems.Knowledge of pump and fluid controls, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.Ability to plan, monitor and supervise the refrigeration/HVAC work of other maintenance employees and contractors.Ability to discuss maintenance and repair issues with coworkers and supervisors tactfully and promptly, in a clear, concise, and easily understandable manner.Ability to safely operate tools and equipment of the building maintenance trades and considerable knowledge of occupational hazards associated with and the safety precautions necessary when working on complex projects.Basic computer skills related to data entry/retrieval, outlook and required training modules through the business’s software.The refrigeration scope will be working on GMP equipment so knowledge around the GMP environment is a necessity.Physical Abilities of job:
Sufficient strength to perform assigned tasks and to lift and carry various items weighing up to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and to lift to one hundred (100) pounds with assistance on an occasional basis.Sufficient speech and hearing permit the employee to communicate effectively with coworkers in person, over the telephone or over a radio.Sufficient color vision to identify indicator lights on electronic control panels and electrical wiring.Sufficient hearing to understand verbal instructions, respond to questions from the area.Sufficient personal mobility permits the employee to work in confirmed spaces and operate required equipment safely in all types of weather and to go to work areas throughout the facility. This will require one to stoop, kneel, reach, turn, crawl, climb or crouch for an extended period in cramped or difficult to reach areas.Must wear personal protective equipment such as safety shoes, safety glasses, safety vests, hearing protection, gloves.Schedule:
4 days per week / 12 hours per day from 5:00 am – 5:00pm or 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.
