Regional Chief Nursing Officer Great Lakes Region

GENERAL SUMMARY :

The Regional Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) is responsible for advancing the clinical strategy, fostering clinical effectiveness and patient safety while delivering exceptional consumer experiences that engage with AdventHealth’s regional network of hospitals, physician’s practices, ambulatory, and post-acute services across the continuum. The CNO works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to ensure effective care integration including case management, care navigation, and clinical documentation integrity supporting the establishment of seamless navigation of patients within the continuum. Reporting to the Regional Chief Executive Officer for AdventHealth Great Lakes Region, the CNO also has responsibility for regional coordination of the Chief Nursing Officers in the region. Additional responsibilities include performance improvement, infection prevention, regulatory compliance, and nursing education. With regional accountability for clinical workforce planning and succession planning, the CNO works collaboratively with the regional Chief People Officer to develop academic partnerships and strengthen the pipeline of clinicians.

Adheres to the ANA Code of Ethics, the ANA Scope and Standard for Nursing Practice, and the AONE Nurse Executive Competencies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Chief Nursing Officer collaborates with the system’s Chief Nurse Executive and serves as a regional liaison between corporate and the hospitals in the Great Lakes region on all nursing initiatives.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :

Advance the clinical strategy, fostering clinical effectiveness and patient safety across the region.

Work collaboratively with facility clinical leaders to deliver an exceptional consumer experience

Articulate clinical strategy and align regional initiatives with the AdventHealth vision

Promote consistency of clinical practice across the region, ensuring physicians and nurses partner in care redesign and clinical integration activities supporting improved clinical outcomes

Develop Academic practice partnerships supporting future workforce development and robust recruitment strategies for physicians, nurses, and clinicians.

Collaborate with the region CIO to establish processes supporting the identification of technology for clinical integration and optimization of the electronic health record.

Design and test innovative care delivery models across the regional entities.

Establish and maintain mechanisms for sharing clinical best practices across the region.

Evaluates and recommends information technology to support and enhance the delivery of patient care and management decision-making in collaboration with regional CIO

Leads regional CNO Groups to ensure consistent standards of practice and delivery of care across the region.

Develops and recruits nurse and physician executive leaders to ensure a robust pipeline for facility CNO positions.

Ensures policies and procedures that define the scope of practice for patient care activities are routinely evaluated and based on current clinical standards of practice.

Ensures that resources are identified to meet the clinical functions of patient care and ensures the appropriate level of staffing to support organizational goals.

Ensures facility compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements in all areas where patient care is delivered.

Responsible for the implementation of effective and ongoing programs to monitor the appropriateness of patient care delivered to patients.

Assesses existing and potential systems for effectiveness and formulates recommendations for improvement.

Develops plans of action that establish objectives, define strategies, and outline in detail the operational actions needed to meet current and future organizational objectives.

Responsible for fiscal management in all areas of scope of responsibility

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED :

Demonstrates professional competency in communication and relationship building

Demonstrates a strong understanding and knowledge of the health care environment , including clinical practice and regulatory

Is competent in and maintains expertise in leadership

Is a role model for professionalism

Demonstrates strong business skills

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

· Proficient computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN)and master’s degree in relevant field.

Ten years’ experience in nursing with five years’ experience in leadership roles in comparable health care setting.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

· Management training highly desired

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED :

Current licensure with the State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

· National certification in Nursing Administration
