What you will be doing
The Regional Food Safety Director will play a key role in ensuring food safety compliance and operational excellence across the FDA-regulated distribution centers within their assigned region. Reporting to the Senior Director of Food Safety Warehouse Operations this individual will oversee and support the implementation of food safety programs, conduct audits, and act as the primary point of contact for food safety matters at the regional level. The Regional Food Safety Director will collaborate closely with site teams and provide expertise to ensure adherence to food safety standards and regulatory requirements.
The position will be based in Dallas, TX.
Main responsibilities
Program Implementation and Oversight: Implement and maintain the company’s enterprise-wide food safety program across regional distribution centers. Ensure site-specific policies align with FDA regulations and company-wide standards. Provide guidance and support to site management teams on food safety-related matters. Audit and Compliance: Conduct regular food safety audits to evaluate compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Identify and address food safety risks, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively. Support distribution centers in preparing for third-party and regulatory audits. Issue Management: Oversee sanitation programs, pest control management, and allergen control measures at regional facilities. Facilitate the execution of product withdrawals and recalls, coordinating efforts with site teams and the Senior Director. Respond to food safety incidents, providing expertise to mitigate impacts and ensure swift resolution. Metrics and Reporting: Collaborate with a business analyst to monitor and report on food safety metrics, including audit scores, compliance rates, and issue resolution performance. Use data insights to recommend and drive continuous improvement initiatives across the region. Team Training and Development: Train site staff on food safety protocols and best practices, fostering a culture of compliance and accountability. Act as a mentor and subject matter expert for food safety professionals within the region. Regulatory Liaison: Serve as the regional point of contact for regulatory authorities, ensuring timely and effective communication during inspections and inquiries. What we are searching for
Strong understanding of FDA regulations, FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act), and HACCP principles. Knowledge of pest control management, sanitation protocols, and recall processes. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills. Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across multiple sites and with cross-functional teams. Leadership: Capable of influencing and mentoring staff to maintain high food safety standards. Attention to Detail: Meticulous in ensuring regulatory compliance and identifying areas for improvement.We believe the successful candidate has these qualifications and experience:
5+ years of experience in food safety and quality assurance within warehouse operations, distribution, or the food industry. Experience conducting audits and managing food safety programs at multiple locations. Bachelor’s degree in food science, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field. This position requires up to 75% travel, including visits to distribution centers within the region and participation in inspections, audits, and training sessions.What is it like at Albertsons?
