A Day in the Life of a Region Engineer:
 

Perform technical duties relevant to environmental, health and safety, and compliance issues at landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations.Provide assistance in fulfillment of all technical/regulatory/operational documentation related to the landfills, transfer stations, and hauling operations in California as part of the Western Region of Waste Connections.Assist in site manager’s administration of all landfill, transfer stations, and hauling operations/programs, daily business dealings/communications.Analyze data and prepare summaries, recommendations and cost estimates for consideration by region engineering manager and/or landfill managers.Conduct on-site technical visits to satellite sites to review and evaluate operational efficiency of yellow iron equipment and systems at various facilities.  Site visits will involve exposure to environmental elements which include dirt, odors, noise, and weather extremes.Assist the region engineering manager and/or landfill managers in reviewing design and development plans, calculating cost estimates for completing proposed projects and evaluating the engineering proposals and specifications.Compose technical reports to document engineering analysis, solutions, and resultsRepresent the organization in conferences to resolve important issues and to plan and coordinate work.Participate in team meetingsDevelop and provide training to site managers on landfill operations, compliance, and regulatory correspondence.Apply standard engineering practices and techniques in specific situations, adjust and correlate data, and recognize discrepancies.Manage and respond to community concernsInterface with planning department and Public Works Department and ensure successful partnership

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering or related field. Must have minimum of fifteen or more years of previous experience with a waste industry employer.Willingness and ability to travel fifty (50%) of the time including but not limited to overnight trips, meetings, trainings, and conferences.Willingness and ability to use personal vehicle for travel to locations reasonably reached by drivingExperience working within a highly regulated industry. Previous work experience in California  with regulators and regulations (State and/or local).Experience managing landfill operations, preferredConsulting experience in the Waste Services IndustryConstruction Project Management experienceExperience with a profit and loss budget statement, preferredExcellent oral and written skillsExperience in communicating with government officials and departments

This position will be based out of our Western Region Office in Vancouver, WA with the primary work being at our Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Castaic, CA. Candidates should expect to travel to Castaic, CA weekly for the first 6-8 months.

Salary Range: $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 Annually

Bonus: 0-20%

RSU Eligible: 0-20%
