Regional Farmers Market Manager - Binghamton, NY
This position will serve as Regional Farmers Market Manager for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Broome County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of the Regional Farmers Market per the established Plan of Work. This position will work with the agricultural community to enhance the economic vitality of agri-businesses in Broome County and the surrounding region. This position will utilize established resources to support and coordinate educational programming efforts provided to farmers and venders by the CCE Broome County Ag & Food Systems team. The primary role of this position will be overall market management and outreach to agriculture producers, new food entrepreneurs, new/beginning farmers and the general public. Additionally, this position is a part of the Markets of Broome collaborative, a network of the five farmers markets in Broome County. This position is expected to assist in the identification and procurement of grant funds and sponsorships for program development, sustainability, and expansion.

POSITION DETAILS:

This position is a full-time, non-exempt position, 37.5 hours per week. The hourly rate for this position is $25.00. This position, based on eligibility, offers a comprehensive benefit package, to include: health and dental insurance, NYS retirement, vacation, sick and personal leave.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education (Associate’s Degree and 2 years transferrable relevant evidence-based research experience).Experience relevant to the role of the position.Valid NYS Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.Ability to work flexible hours which include evenings and/or weekends. This position has a requirement to work on Saturdays year-round.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

Program Responsibilities:

Program Delivery, Evaluation and Applied Research - 5%

Work to foster acceptance of the program, methods and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences.Provide educational program efforts via mass media.Implement program evaluation as designed.Assist in the interaction with various constituencies to obtain their evaluation of programs.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Direction and Management - 20%

Provide input to support the planning of educational programs to include but not limited to planning the delivery of established educational program goals and planning the structure of delivering educational programs via various methods.Provide input in anticipating or planning for Farmers Market Program expenses.Assist the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist with anticipating or projecting program expenses.Assist the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist in the planning of Farmers Market fund development activities as appropriate.Provide limited complexity administrative assistance to include, but not limited to, weekly reporting and cash reconciliation, planning for mass media efforts related to the Farmers Market Program, assisting the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist in developing communication strategies.Assist the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist in the writing and development of grant applications to secure funding for ongoing/expanded programming efforts.Solve problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the Farmers Market Program utilizing appropriate policies and procedures, as needed.Support the allocation of program resources to accomplish Association program objectives within the Farmers Market Program.Assist the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist with the monitoring of Farmers Market Program income/expenses to ensure spending is within the program budget constraint.Ensure the Farmers Market Programs meet health, safety and other licensing standards and provide quality Farmers Market Program experiences.Ensure the Farmers Market meets all reporting and documentation requirements as it relates to the various NYS nutrition incentive programs, including SNAP/EBT, Farmers Market Nutrition Programs, and FreshConnect.

Coordination/Operation - 70%

Organize and coordinate all program activities related to the Farmers Market, such as: scheduling of farm visits for new and existing vendors, training of vendors on nutrition incentive programs (Farmers Market Nutrition Programs, SNAP/EBT, FreshConnect, etc.), Kids Club, and others as defined by programmatic needs.Organize and coordinate a tabling program for community partners and organizations sharing a similar mission or audience as the Broome County Regional Farmers Market.Support Markets of Broome efforts, including attending market manager meetings, collaborative events, and other opportunities as identified.Develop and grow new markets within the Regional Farmers Market platform.Assist in the identification and procurement of grant funds for program development, sustainability and expansion.Maintain relationships with constituents and the community by utilizing various methods of communication such as writing newsletters, sending emails, and tabling at community events and/or community meetings in support of the Regional Farmers Market and its programs.Coordinate, compile and organize existing program resources and program materials.Collect evaluation data and program needs assessments from program participants based on existing evaluation framework and guidelines.Under the direction of the Agricultural Economic Development Specialist, provide moderately complex administrative support to prepare materials for report submission to meet grant/contract funding requirements, including, but not limited to: impact statements and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board of Directors and others as requested.In partnership with the Events Coordinator, design and implement events in support of the Regional Farmers Market and its programs. This can include events coinciding with day-of market operations, as well as fundraising events or special events highlighting the market.Coordinate effective marketing strategies in partnership with the Digital Marketing & Outreach team, to include, but not limited to: print media, news media, social media, and multi-media efforts.Weekly social day-of social media posts for the purposes of marketing and consumer education.Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses that promote effective communication and facilitate continued programming efforts. This position may require the transport of program materials and resources in performing position responsibilities.

Professional Improvement and Other Duties as Assigned - 5%

In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes in programming and association priorities.Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension including but not limited to attendance at staff meetings, timely reporting of expenses, working with other staff, general marketing of Extension programs and other duties as assigned.
