Regional Safety Director – Central Group

The Regional Safety Director is responsible for the overall planning and implementation of Clark’s safety program for the Central Group.  This role develops safety strategies that drive down risk and move the organization towards a world-class safety culture. Works closely with the Central Group team advising on safety and health issues and policies. Acts as ultimate liaison between employees, customer representatives and third-party individuals (regulatory, governmental and insurance agencies), and clients on safety matters. Performs the following duties personally or through other leaders in the office and field.  Significant travel required to jobsites in Texas and the Kansas City Area.

Responsibilities

Work closely with Company leaders to ensure alignment with overall safety culture

Maintain and manage all required safety training of Company employees and continuing training for safety professionals

Develop recommendations and present solutions, based on data and trend analysis; to improve health and safety performance and achieve greater employee engagement

Identify and develop programs and procedures to assure compliance with regulatory safety and health policies and standards

Work directly with State and Federal Agencies on matters of inspection, investigation, complaints, and resolution of all health and safety related matters

Identify and anticipate safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions; advise on new procedures and recommend preventative programs for employees, Joint Venture partners and subs

Monitor job sites and processes for adherence to applicable client and regulatory agency requirements by overseeing operations, recommending corrective measures; preparing for regulatory and client safety audits and investigations

Train, plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; address complaints and resolve problems of direct reports

Complete other related duties and projects assigned by the Corporate Safety Director

Provide leadership to subordinates and effectively manage employee performance through clear communication of expectations, goals, status; recognition of accomplishments; timely, specific feedback on performance issues; active involvement in and support of employee work efforts

Develop bench strength by effectively mentoring unit employees

Effectively manage relationships with key internal customers (including budget and resource allocation), other company support functions, and external contacts to meet business needs

Develop and support mechanisms to ensure that unit employees maintain up-to-date knowledge of health and safety requirements and effectively communicate with affected businesses and management

Lead and manage business functions for the Health, Safety, and culture including work plans, performance reviews, staff development, KPI monitoring and reporting, budgeting and self-assessment

Proactively identify and develop relationships with industry professionals to generate and win the right work

Take an active role in recruiting top industry talent to join the Clark team. Identify, hire, and retain outstanding people

Exceed our stakeholders’ expectations by anticipating their needs, desires, and goals

 

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Hygiene, etc.) preferred but not required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in safety management

OSHA 30-hour trained

OSHA 500, 502 & 510 Trainer course

Experience in safety program development and risk management to attain corporate objectives

Proven record of accomplishment in managing safety programs

Demonstrated ability to communicate and influence supervisors, peers, and external partners

Certified Safety Professional is a plus

Outstanding relationship building and interpersonal skills (e.g., influencing and listening skills to deal effectively with all levels of employees, management and clients)

Effective leadership and management skills

Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goals

Proof of training/competency in managing crane, electrical, fall protection, excavation, scaffolds, and confined space safety

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; confident, engaging verbal communicator

Understanding of inter-departmental relationships and processes and demonstrated ability to positively influence supervisors, peers, and external partners

Broad knowledge of appropriate Health & Safety and department programs and procedures

Ability to analyze data and develop appropriate strategic responses

Excellent organizational and problem solving skills

Extensive knowledge of Regulatory Requirements and experience in interfacing with and influencing regulatory agencies at the local, state and federal level

Demonstrated personal accountability for own actions while modeling company values

Consistently delivers value and superior results to customers and other stakeholders by improving products, services and processes

Ability to manage multiple initiatives or work groups in multiple locations

Physical Demands

Office environment: sitting at a desk and using a computer; repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing

Talking and hearing

Regularly walking on uneven surfaces and at heights, climbing ladders, climbing stairs

Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling

Ability to travel extensively, including driving and flying to jobsites, on a regular, weekly basis. May be exposed to extreme winter weather as well as summer weather extremes including rain, humidity, sun, wind, snow and icy conditions.  Current states of operation:
