RAILSERVE CANADA - REGIONAL SAFETY LEADER

Applicants must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship now or in the future.

We are looking for a person living in or near Edmonton ideally, who will be able to easily work with the Railserve locations and customers in this geographical area.

SUMMARY: 

Responsible for managing the company EH&S program for locations within the Canadian region as well as providing leadership for maintaining a culture that encourages safe behaviors and the appropriate employee mindset. This position works with the operations group to enhance and improve safe production and evaluates operations to ensure compliance to provincial and federal regulations as well as customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors the company’s safety standards and program effectiveness in accordance with Federal/Provincial regulations (i.e., OH&S, IROR/CROR etc.) as applicable.Develops and currents Canadian training materials when required and works with the corporate safety department when materials are integrated with both US & Canadian operationsEnsures Canadian content in ISNetworld is accurate by providing support to the corporate safety coordinatorMaintains oversite and management of the Railserve Federal Safety Management System requirementsInterfaces with Transport Canada & Alberta Transportation for any program or audit requirementsLeads the Certificate of Recognition program for Railserve CanadaConducts biannual location safety assessments of the region in conjunction with the Director of Canadian OperationsAssists operations when requested by conducting root cause investigations of incidents to finding causes of health & safety events and supports the identification of preventative safety measures to prevent recurrence. Works with the Canadian region to ensure proper case management and medical aid is given to injured employees in a manner that facilitates return to work and manages expendituresResponsible to complete and submit any required WCB reports/forms and is point of contact for case managementEngages in the RFP process with the operations and sales & marketing teamParticipates as a member of the start up team for new operations in the Canadian region by integrating EHS requirements throughout all phases of the processProvides training support to increase proficiency in safe operations and promote an elevated level of safety awarenessLeads operations with the development and review in the hazard assessment processAssists operations in procedure development as requested or required at a local site levelProvides support and guidance for leadership and employee development of direct reportsMaintains good working relationships with customer contact personnel as well as local company site management teamRequired to work days, evenings and weekends as needed

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Five to ten years related experience in a safety position; or equivalent combination of education and experience ​in a rail environment.  2 year safety related ​certificate or higher from an accredited educational institution

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret legislation, governmental regulations and technical procedures.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: 

Safety certification or degree from an accredited educational institutionCRSP designation preferred but not required


OTHER REQUIREMENTS:  

Travel up to 30% may be required
