POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) is a key member of NAHC’s Dental Department who will provide chairside assisting support and will perform RDA functions within their scope of licensure. The RDA will be travelling to all locations as scheduled for fill in coverage.
The Native American Health Center is an accredited institution and adheres to the standards of excellence set forth by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) and the Commission of Dental Accreditation (CODA).
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Prepare operatory for member reception and ensure operatory is as aseptic as possible for member welfare.
2. Greet all members in a courteous, professional and timely manner.
3. Enter member data and dental charting information into the Electronic Dental Record (EDR) system, (Dentrix) in a manner that ensures accuracy, completeness and that is timely.
4. Take radiographs and accurately catalog them into members’ Dentrix record in a timely manner
5. Apply topical fluoride as requested by assigned dentist.
6. Check members’ vital signs (i.e., blood pressure [BP], temperature, etc.) as necessary and/or requested by the assigned dentist.
7. Proactively review Dentrix chart notes for the planned treatment, in order to set up trays and operatory appropriately.
8. Ensure pre-set trays are well maintained, and are always ready to be used for procedures.
9. Retract oral tissues in order to increase visual access into the oral cavity.
10. Remove excess moisture from mouth by using hi-vac systems and/or air.
11. Properly transfer instruments to dentists while maintaining extremely high attention to detail and adhering to sterilization standards.
12. Prepare and properly deliver any required restorative materials to dentists.
13. Remove all instruments from operatory in a timely manner and prepare such instruments for sterilization.
14. Perform sterilization and maintenance procedures according to departmental policy.
15. Keep work area well organized, stocked and clean at all times.
16. Keep uninvolved people out of the operatories at all times.
17. Take impressions for diagnostic and opposing study models.
18. Pour impressions with proper stone and package them for transport to dental laboratory.
19. Operate dental radiographic equipment for the purpose of oral radiography.
20. Inform Dental Assistant Supervisor (DAS) of any supplies that need replenishing in a manner that ensures constant levels of supplies are maintained.
21. Assist the assigned dentist with referrals, prescription phone-ins, and other processes involved in providing high quality dental care.
22. Obtain Informed Consent prior to dental treatment, and deliver post-operative instructions with guidance from the assigned dentist.
23. Enter maintenance and prosthetic case information into tracking logs in a manner that is complete, accurate and timely.
24. Assist clinical staff in optimizing member flow. This will include restocking items, seating members, ‘floating’ and supporting other dental team members with member care.
25. Outreach and provide dental treatment off-site (i.e., at mobile and satellite clinics) when requested by direct supervisor.
26. Proactively communicate information regarding member care and member accounts to other members of the dental department, as appropriate.
27. Provide chairside support on Saturdays, as requested by Supervisor.
28. Patient Care: Demonstrate understanding and apply working knowledge of safety policies and ensuring safe patient practices.
29. Employee Safety: Safely performs all duties; follows required protective protocols to ensure personal safety as well the safety of others.
30. Must maintain compliance with ergonomic safety standards; be mindful of posture and regularly practice ergonomic stretches.
31. Actively participate in internal quality improvement teams and work with members proactively to drive quality improvement initiatives in accordance with the mission and strategic goals of the organization, federal and state laws and regulations, and accreditation standards, when assigned.
32. Work well under pressure, meet multiple and often competing deadlines.
33. At all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with supervisors, subordinates, colleagues, clients and the community.
34. All other duties as assigned by DCM and the Dental Director.
