Salary Range: $32.08 - $44.21

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary:

The Registered Dietitian is under the direct supervision of the Director of Nutrition Services. Responsible for the nutritional needs of patients through the coordination of activities related to medical nutrition therapy and the multidisciplinary care team.  Performs medical nutrition therapy for patients who are infants, children, adolescents or an adult. Works well under stress or tight deadlines. Establishes and maintains effective, courteous and respectful working relationships with patients, families, members of the medical and nursing staffs as well as co-workers.

Position Duties/Responsibility:

Acute Hospital Responsibilities: 

Conducts assessments; develops and recommends evidence-based nutrition interventions, including therapeutic diets; develops and implements care plans and provides nutrition counseling to the patient and/or the patient’s family members. 

Provides routine follow-up to determine effectiveness of applied interventions in meeting patient’s nutrition needs as well as reassessment of patient’s nutritional needs as necessary. 

Records observations, nutrition plan of care, recommendations and any other information pertinent to the patient’s treatment in patient’s medical record. 

Collaborates with medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals in the planning and implementation of patient care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of patients. 

Provides education to medical, nursing and ancillary staff as needed. 

Acts as a preceptor for dietetic interns. 

Evaluates, develops, revises and maintains nutritional education. 

Provides medical nutrition therapy to individuals and groups in an outpatient setting. 

CCC Responsibilities: 

Evaluates upon admission and re-evaluates residents at quarterly intervals, and more often if there is a change in the resident’s condition, and modifies nutritional care plans as needed. 

Evaluates resident weekly and monthly weights for significant weight changes and makes appropriate recommendations as needed. 

Collaborates with Diet Aides and the Dietary Director regarding resident’s food preferences 

Collaborates with Dietary Director for Kitchen Inspections, Meal Tray Audits, Staff In-Services, Snack Audits and other kitchen requirements per Title 22.  

Collaborates with medical staff, nursing staff and allied health professionals in the planning and implementation of resident care as necessary in meeting the nutritional needs of residents. 

Reviews and revises nutrition education materials. 

General Responsibilities for Both Entities:  

Serves as an ongoing liaison with medical and nursing staffs while pursuing the continuous improvement of performance within the organization. 

Plans and conducts in-service training for all Dietary Services Department personnel as well as participates in Dietary and Nutrition Services staff meetings. 

Participates in community health and wellness events. 

Completes continuing education units in compliance with Commission on Dietetic Registration requirements.  

Other duties assigned  

Position Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics.  Minimum of one year experience in clinical nutrition as a Registered Dietitian preferred. Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR), registration eligible individuals will be considered.

Skills/Ability:

Strong communication skills. Knowledge of state and federal regulations. Safety requirements. Quality improvement principles. Maintain records in an organized manner. Maintain the department's CMS and California state accreditation. Establishes and maintains effective, positive working relations with departmental employees, hospital staff, medical staff and patients. Assures safe practices and techniques are used in the department. Communicates policies to hospital and dietary employees.
