General NotesThe Registered Dietitian will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary, team-based program providing care to patients within the Musculoskeletal Institute at UT Health Austin, Dell Medical School. Additionally, the Registered Dietitian will collaborate with the Division of Health Social Work, working collectively to deliver exemplary, patient-centered care in an innovative and dynamic environment.
The Division of Health Social Work serves as a centralized hub for social workers and other integrated health providers, fostering an environment that empowers professionals to improve health and enhance the well-being of patients and families in partnership with patients, families, and communities. Through cutting-edge models and comprehensive services, the division creates tangible value within the healthcare ecosystem while championing whole-person care and interprofessional collaboration. Functioning as a formalized collaborative structure, the Division of Health Social Work unites interprofessional missions, cultivating synergies that drive impactful, patient-centric care. The Division of Health Social Work offers additional clinical training opportunities for individuals working towards licensure, including supervision for those pursuing their LCSW.
PurposeThe Registered Dietitian will support patients with chronic musculoskeletal medical conditions in achieving their healthcare goals in collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team. This includes assessing nutritional status and needs, developing and implementing personalized nutrition care plans, and monitoring progress. The Registered Dietitian will deliver evidence-based nutrition interventions tailored to the needs of patients with complex medical conditions.
ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive nutrition assessments and counsel patients and their families on managing musculoskeletal conditions, chronic pain, and related health concerns. Collect detailed dietary histories and food records to evaluate lifestyle, eating habits, and food tolerances. Develop, review, update, and implement evidence-based educational materials and protocols to support patients in adopting dietary and lifestyle practices that enhance physical and mental health. Tailor nutrition plans to patients' unique needs, including their lifestyle preferences, as well as their diagnosis and education level.
Ensure accurate documentation of patient education, understanding, anticipated engagement in services, and follow-up recommendations in the electronic health record (EHR).
Partner with physicians, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to deliver integrated, patient-centered care. Coordinate all aspects of nutrition care, including assessment, care planning, screening, tracking and reporting patient outcomes, and aligning patient goals with personalized health strategies.
Assist in the development and delivery of training programs for physicians, clinical staff, patients, and community members to increase awareness and understanding of the role of nutrition in health and recovery.
Contribute to the creation of nutrition protocols and resources tailored to musculoskeletal care, with a focus on weight loss and diabetic education.
Stay current with the latest research and best practices in clinical nutrition and musculoskeletal health. Actively participate in division meetings, team huddles, case discussions, and care planning sessions. Engage in training, workshops, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance care delivery.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field. Must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and obtain licensure from the Texas State Board of Examiners of Dietitians within six (6) months of employment. Requires a minimum of two (2) years of post-degree clinical experience in a healthcare setting. Demonstrates the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a wide range of healthcare professionals, including physicians, psychologists, social workers, nurses, physician assistants, physical therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, and medical assistants. Maintains a highly collaborative approach within the team, as well as with local, regional, and national professional communities. Possesses excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational, planning, follow-up, and time management abilities. Exhibits strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-provider practice environment.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsBilingual in Spanish and English is strongly preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of post-degree clinical experience in a healthcare setting. A Master’s degree in Nutrition or a related field. The candidate must have experience providing care as part of an interdisciplinary team and promoting evidence-based practices with medically underserved populations.
Salary Range$65,000+ depending on qualifications
