I. Major Responsibilities:

1.  Performs patient assessment according to standard procedure.
2.  Provides care utilizing the nursing process.
3.  Initiates and implements nursing interventions as directed.
4.  Evaluates patient progress as indicated or required.
5.  Documents patient care according to standard procedure.
6.  Records and reports observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and/or changes in patient condition to provider.  
7.  In absence of manager, directs, supervises, coordinates and evaluates patient flow and care within ambulatory setting.
8.  Provides and/or coordinates health teaching for patient and family.
9.  Collaborates with other health care providers using the quality improvement process to ensure quality and continuity of care.
10. Administers medications, performs treatments, operates equipment according to policies and procedures.  Assists providers with treatments, procedures and special tests.
11. Assists in education and development of staff as required or directed.
12. Maintains current basic life support (BLS) certification every two years.

Standard Staffing Level Responsibilities:

1. Complies with established departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
2. Attends variety of meetings, conferences, seminars as required or directed.
3. Demonstrates use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
4. Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
5. Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
6. Maintains, regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
7. Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.

II. Position Qualifications:


License/Certification/Education:

Required:
1. Completion of an accredited school of nursing program.
2. Current Massachusetts licensure and registration. 

Preferred:
1. BSN
Experience/Skills:

Required:
1. Thorough knowledge of the discipline of Nursing.
2. At least 1 year experience in Medical/ Surgical nursing.
3. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
4. BLS is a requirement for every RN unless an advance certification is current (ex ACLS, PALS, NRP). In addition, unit specific certification and competencies are defined in the Unit Profile.

Preferred:
1. Minimum of 2 years’ experience with 1 year in desirable field.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.

Department-specific competencies and their measurements will be developed and maintained in the individual departments. The competencies will be maintained and attached to the departmental job description. Responsible managers will review competencies with position incumbents.

III. Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:

Work is considered sedentary.  Position requires work indoors in a normal patient care environment.
