In caring for our patients we utilize ventilators, therapeutic hypothermia, and CVVHD, manage multiple vasopressors and TBI, and perform emergent surgical procedures at the bedside. In addition, we admit overflow neurovascular and stroke patients, and patients with traumatic brain injury.

The UPMC Presbyterian Trauma ICU (4G) is a 10-bed critical care facility serving patients with acute traumatic and neurologic injuries. We perform many procedures at the bedside, including placement of chest tubes, central and arterial lines, cranial monitoring bolts, tracheostomy, bronchoscopy, and ventriculostomy, as well as echocardiography and exploratory laparotomy. On 4G we emphasize teamwork and enjoy strong collaborations between nurses and physicians.
