General Statement Provide nursing care as part of the primary health care team at MSU Student Health Services. SHS is housed in the new Student Wellness Center, a new facility that is home to Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, and Campus Recreation. The facility enhances the integrated and holistic model of student health and wellness at MSU. Duties and Responsibilities Provide high-quality nursing services to MSU students. Facilitate patient appointments with physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Perform initial patient intakes. Assess designated presenting problems following SHS protocol. Respond to phone calls from patients and outside providers related to medical issues. Respond appropriately to patients with mental health issues. Deliver normal and abnormal lab test results to patients. Provide treatments and perform procedures including suture removal, wound care, ear lavage, EKG, spirometry; fit orthopedic aids; administer vision and hearing tests. Assist with minor surgeries, wound management, IUD insertions, Nexplanon insertions and colposcopies. Provide preventative health care including immunizations. Assist with discharge planning and patient education. Work with diabetic patients on blood glucose monitoring and insulin injections. Work with transgender patients on medications and other issues. Act as resource for two medical assistants. Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing. Current license to practice as a registered nurse in Montana. Recent professional nursing experience in a primary care setting such as primary care medical offices, emergency medical facilities, urgent care centers, student health services, or public health departments. Demonstrated competence with using diagnostic equipment such as EKG and spirometry (list equipment). Demonstrated excellent communication skills with staff and patients, particularly among a college student population. Record of providing quality nursing care. Current Basic Life Support certification. Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills Experience working in both primary care and urgent care settings. The Successful Candidate Will Communicate effectively with employees and the public both in person and over the phone. Establish and maintain effective clinical relationships with patients. Work collaboratively with the health care team. Make sound and independent nursing judgments. Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with patients and colleagues. Represent SHS and its programs in a professional and courteous manner. Position Special Requirements/Additional Information License to Practice as a Registered Nurse in Montana and current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
