EvergreenHealth Monroe, a small semi-rural acute care hospital has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced REGISTERED NURSE to fill a day shift position in our Surgery Unit. EvergreenHealth Monroe, a small community hospital seeks a Registered Nurse to help provide staffing coverage in our Surgical Services department which includes 3 OR Suites, 2 Procedure Rooms and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) seeing primarily orthopedic and general surgery cases. This is a day shift position, working 8-hour shifts with minimal standby and on-call rotation requirements, which will be further clarified for candidates during the interview process.

JOB SUMMARY of ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Adheres to Hospital Policies and Procedures and Philosophy of Care. Consistently exhibits professional conduct that is a behavior-based expression of the hospital’s Standards of Excellence. Organizes and administers individualized, professional patient care to patients within the intra-operative period. Provides nursing care as directed by medical staff and in accordance with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the hospital and the Washington State Nurse Practice Act. Participates in patient teaching. Participates in unit and hospital Performance Improvement activities. Assumes Charge Nurse role as assigned. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to respond to rapidly changing patient needs. Demonstrates knowledge and skills required to function on the unit. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Adheres to current AORN guidelines. Adheres to all State and Federal Regulation pertaining to exposure to hazardous materials
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE; CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, and current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license. Requires current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, must obtain Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 30 days of hire date.
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT, SKILLS, OR OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to initiate a nursing plan of care using the nursing process. Ability to organize and prioritize patient assignments and unit activities. Ability to safely use equipment specific to the nursing unit.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND HAZARDS:
Adheres to all State and Federal regulations pertaining to hazardous materials. Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous substances, and blood/body fluids. Risk of physical injury from transferring and transporting patients and supplies, operation of equipment, and risk of physical injury from standing, sitting, walking, and stooping.
WORK CONTACT GROUP: All hospital staff, patients, families, visitors, medical staff, and the public.
SPECIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, and transfer and transport patients. Must be able to bend, stoop, push and pull. Walks and stands for most of the working day. Must possess visual, tactile, and manual dexterity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL
1. Uses all available resources in the initial assessment of patient needs including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, and H&P; performs a site verification and starts IV antibiotic before incision time.
2. Formulates and revises plan of care for assigned patients based on patient problems, age, nursing interventions, treatment, and specific patient outcomes. Consistently checks laterality, x-rays, and observes Time Out in OR room and documents correctly.
3. Delivers individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies, and procedures, and AORN Standards.
4. Makes effective nursing judgements in crisis/emergency situations.
5. Determines the effectiveness of patient care through patient interviews, assessment, and adjusts patient care to meet changing needs. Gives full report to other departments. (SBAR hand-off).
6. Appropriately delegates tasks but retains ultimate responsibility. Can assume Float Nurse or Charge Nurse as needed.
7. Maintains the role of patient advocate.
8. Initiates or participates in performance improvement activities for the department or organization.
9. Remains knowledgeable of all current nursing policies/procedures, reads mandatory reading material. Follows SCIP protocol.
10. Identifies patient's/significant other's needs for education and provides education using appropriate educational modalities. (PNDS)
11. Maintains complete, accurate and concise documentation of patient care consistently on Peri-operative paperwork.
12. Ensures patient and staff safety through preventive measures (i.e. transfer to OR bed, use of patient safety devices, attention to the development of potential hazards, adherence to electrical safety techniques, etc.) and implementation of hospital and departmental policy and procedure.
13. Actively participates in assessing and communicating the patient's needs.
14. Applies knowledge of surgical asepsis when arranging and opening sterile surgical packs, instruments, trays and selected supplies, monitors maintenance of aseptic technique of the surgical team both preoperatively and intra-operatively. (i.e., visually checks sterilization indicators, package integrity, expiration date and monitors for breaks in aseptic technique by surgical team).
15. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.
16. Communicates assessment data and findings to other members of the health care team and facilitates appropriate intervention when relieving for break, lunch or end of shift.
17. Reports adverse or unexpected developments to the surgeon and departmental management.
18. Provides or assists with orientation of new and existing staff.
19. Demonstrates attitudes and/or behaviors in interacting with all others that are courteous, polite, concerned, friendly and respectful, resulting in favorable patient, physician and staff perceptions of the hospital and its employees.
Other duties as assigned.
This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and SEIU Healthcare 1199NW.
