Job Description
Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assess health status by interviewing patients regarding their current status and medical history. Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions. Review and report the results of health status assessments, physical examinations, pertinent laboratory data, radiographic data, and psychosocial assessments of assigned patients to the provider. Provide teaching and other instructional material to patients and families as needed. Maintain patient confidentiality and provide psychosocial support to patients and families. Prepare and administer therapies under the direction and supervision of a physician, ensuring correct medication/blood product, dosage/amount, route, time, and technique. Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, assessing labs, consulting protocol or treatment plan, calculating dose, and consulting physician regarding dosage modifications, problems, and symptom management. Perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheter devices. Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments provided. Apply knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
ResponsibilitiesAssess and evaluate patients' health status and medical history.Collect and record nursing assessments and interventions.Review and report health status assessments and physical examinations to the provider.Provide teaching and instructional material to patients and families.Maintain patient confidentiality and provide psychosocial support.Prepare and administer therapies under physician supervision.Administer medications and blood products using correct procedures.Assure pre-authorization and obtain appropriate consent forms prior to therapy administration.Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient and consulting protocol or treatment plan.Perform venipuncture and maintain central line catheter devices.Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.Restock supply area and maintain work environment.Follow OSHA guidelines for handling cytotoxic agents and biohazardous waste.Maintain all disinfection protocols and equipment quality control standards.Manage patient medication refill requests and record information in patient charts.Assist physicians with exams and procedures.Maintain efficient and appropriate patient flow in and out of exam rooms.Facilitate and schedule consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests, referrals, and future appointments.Triages patient phone calls and documents relevant information.Facilitate communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team.Assist patients in locating available community resources.Assist and collaborate with clinical research.Act as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants.Provide nursing coverage for satellite offices as needed.Serve as mentor/preceptor and provide day-to-day guidance to less experienced staff.Participate in professional development activities and maintain current knowledge of oncology nursing.Essential SkillsCurrent RN license and registration with the State Board of Nursing.3-5 years nursing experience with at least 1 year in oncology infusion.Chemotherapy infusion experience.Oncology certification preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.Additional Skills & QualificationsGraduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred.Must maintain continuing education requirements.Work Environment
The work environment requires floating between Brandywine and Eldersburg locations. Typical work hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM or 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The position involves working in a clinical setting with exposure to cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste, and other potentially infectious materials. Adherence to OSHA guidelines and disinfection protocols is mandatory. The role includes working with a multidisciplinary team and providing care to oncology patients. Dress code is professional attire suitable for a clinical setting.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/yr.
