Staff cooperates with medical providers and CSU Health Network staff to assure students meet immunization requirements. The Immunizations department provides services between the hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday-Friday, providing attractive work schedules for staff. Position Summary The Registered Nurse for Allergy and Immunizations works under the supervision of the Public Health and Risk Manager to serve as a Lead Expert regarding travel medicine and travel vaccinations. The position will also assist with immunizations, infection control, employee health intakes, communicable disease follow-up, and allergy injections. This position serves as primary back-up to the allergy nurse, especially during academic breaks. It is anticipated that this position has the potential for a Lead Allergy role in the future. Essential Duties Job Duty CategoryTravel Medicine Clinic Duty/Responsibility This position works independently in the Senior Lead Expert role in the Travel Medicine Program with input from the Public Health and Risk Manager and provides patient care in the Travel and Immunization Clinic. Duties include: + Review, create, and update Travel policies and inform staff of changes + Review the traveler’s immunization history and obtain information about the traveler’s planned itinerary (including destination dates of travel, accommodations, and planned activities), then using resources such as the Centers for Disease Control ( CDC ), advising the traveler about which immunizations are required and/or recommended + Administer travel immunizations + Follow protocol to counsel patients about and provide pre-signed prescriptions for malaria prophylaxis based on their medical history and itinerary Follow protocol to provide pre-signed prescriptions for antibiotics for self-treatment of traveler’s diarrhea based on patient’s medical history and travel itinerary + Maintain accurate documentation of prescriptions given, travel consultation visits and travel itinerary in the electronic health record + Route encounters for physician co-signatures + Maintain a log of Yellow Fever vaccinations according to state and federal requirements + Participate in quality improvement activities for the Travel Medicine Program Percentage Of Time30% Job Duty CategoryAllergy Duty/Responsibility This position works independently to provide care in the Allergy Clinic.
