**Department** : Behavioral Health Unit **Shift** : Variable **Daily Work Times** : Variable **Scheduled hours per pay:** 0 PRN/Variable **Position Summary:** Assesses, plans, provides, and evaluates direct patient care to patients in the Behavioral Health Unit. Assures the quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Michigan nurse Practice Act, McLaren Lapeer Region, and nursing department standards. Utilizing the nursing process, functions primarily in direct patient care. Participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment. Maintains patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality, and respects patient rights. Begins leadership and preceptor participation when performance demonstrates ability. **Essential Functions and Responsibilities:** 1. Participates as member of treatment team and performs discharge planning activities 2. Assesses and monitors environment to keep dangerous objects, sharps, etc. out of reach of patients 3. Performs intake procedures (signing forms, checking insurance, notifying physician and MCH, etc.) 4. Monitors lab values, weights and other patient data and notifies physician 5. Participates as member of 1st Responder Team **Qualifications:** _Required:_ + Graduate of an accredited school of nursing + Must possess valid State of Michigan Nursing License + BLS certified within 30 days of hire + CPI within 6 months of hire _Preferred:_ + Previous work experience in inpatient psychiatric nursing + Minimum 1 year of experience as staff nurse
