Additionally, the nurse will assist the cardiologist/radiologist in all aspects of invasive, as well as non-invasive cardiology/radiology, including procedures performed at One Vernon Place, which may include and not be limited to circulating, monitoring and recording hemodynamic parameters. Other duties may include assisting as needed at Yolando Barco Oncology Institute.
Communication: Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, manager, supervisor, etc.), Records these observations, changes and reactions accurately, concisely and legibly for patients undergoing cardiovascular procedures. Plans, implements and documents health teaching with patient and/or significant other.
Communicates with the physician continuously and as needed about patient’s condition. Communicates with and serves as liaison between patients family and physician.
Performance: Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs. Based on those conditions and needs, develops and implements individual plan of care with revisions as patients condition and needs change. Responsible for admitting, recovering, and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath/ Interventional Radiology Lab.
Maintains the standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department. Monitors the patient at all times
Demonstrates knowledge of and implements policies and procedures of the hospital and nursing departments as well as cardiology, radiology and critical care areas policies and procedures.
Directs, supervises and evaluates nursing care provided to the patients and administers direct care, by using professional nursing skills and judgments as required. Ensures pre-op checklist is complete before patient Is taken into catheterization lab.
Institutes emergency measures for Code Blue, Fire and Disaster plans.
Demonstrates knowledge of arterial lines, Swan-Ganz and documents appropriately.
Assists physicians with patient, procedures, and exams. Transcribes physician orders accurately and legibly. Administers medications, including IV's according to hospital policy and procedure.
Assists with inventory. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs are met. Demonstrates cost-conscious use of supplies; maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner. Maintains change sheet for all procedures.
Is knowledgeable and supports Guest Services policies and programs.
Is aware of and adheres to hospital attendance policy.
Is aware of and adheres to Administrative Policy # A-230 (General appearance)
Participates in the orientation of new staff and in the clinical experience of students.
Assumes personal responsibility for professional development and continuing education.
Attends in-service programs that are required. Attends continuing education programs outside of the hospital. Keeps abreast of current issues by reading professional journals. Attends unit meetings, other meetings, reads notices and memos. Maintains skills in the assessment, treatment, and care appropriate to the unique need i.e., age groups, disease process) of the patients for whom they care..
Supports TQI (Total Quality Improvement) concepts through the use of team work, participation and cooperation
Participates in nursing service committees.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing. Experience: Minimum of on year adult, acute care with cardiology/cardiovascular nursing. One year of experience in cardiac cath lab preferred. IABP experience preferred. Current BLS/ACLS are required. CCRN preferred.
Current State Nursing License in Pennsylvania or having made application for licensure.
