**Description:**
The critical access hospital contains 20 swing beds and three emergency department rooms. The swing beds accommodate acute/inpatient, skilled, observation, outpatient, and same-day surgery.
+ Acute/inpatients typically include patients needing acute medical care and monitoring, IV medications, and diagnostic evaluation.
+ Skilled patients typically include patients needing more recovery time from acute illness, surgery, IV antibiotics, and extended therapy needs.
+ Observation patients typically include patients needing diagnostic testing, fluid replacement, and IV medications.
+ Outpatient patients typically include patients needing IV medications or injections.
+ Same-day surgery patients include colonoscopy, cataract, and podiatry.
+ Average of 80 – 100 emergency department visits per month
+ Staff work closely with the multidisciplinary team, which includes pharmacy, social worker, case manager, physical therapy, and occupational therapy
This unit hires ADN and BSN (preferred) with twelve-week orientation for new graduates and eight-week orientation for experienced hires. Every new nurse is paired with an experienced preceptor. This unit self-schedules, and schedules are six-week blocks. This allows individuals to work around events in their personal life.
The critical access hospital is licensed through the Department of Inspections and Appeals. This identifies that the critical access hospital is held to high standards as well as great patient care.
