Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Registered Nurse to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
The RN -1 (Admit/ Recovery RN) is responsible for assisting the physician and delivering patient care to those patients undergoing endoscopic or ophthalmic procedures. Able to perform all aspects of patient care regarding pre, and post-procedure, for admission and discharge processes. During admission the focus is on assessing, identifying, and solving nursing care and pre-procedure problems. The nurse is responsible for starting and monitoring IVs, administering pre-procedure medications, performing pre-procedure instruction and explanation of the patient’s rights and procedures. Able to care for patients in recovery phases I and II. During patient recovery is responsible for monitoring vital signs, providing pain management, providing patient and family education, and ensuring the safety of the patient until discharge into the vehicle of a responsible driver. He/she will facilitate and demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The RN-1 (Admit/ Recovery RN)
Pre-Procedure:
1. Assess physical and emotional needs of patients and implements appropriate nursing interventions. Completes nursing pre-assessment record including confirmation of the following:
a. Allergies
b. Home Medications
c. Dentures, Contact lenses or Glasses
d. Pertinent medical conditions and medical history
e. Confirms procedure and/or operative site
f. Obtains signature on procedure consent form per doctor’s order.
g. Confirms responsible party and transportation home per facility policy.
h. Obtains any relevant labs/tests on chart.
2. Assesses or performs the following:
a. Vital Signs
b. Weight and Height.
c. Capillary or Venous blood sugar, if applicable
d. Pregnancy test, if applicable
e. IV start on all patients, except those without an order to do so. Utilizes anesthesia protocol/doctor’s order regarding IV fluid and catheter size.
f. Assess pain level
3. Ensures patients receiving sedation via anesthesia provider are seen by anesthesia prior to being taken back for procedure (if applicable).
4. Participates in overall perioperative department functions including, but not limited to the scheduling of procedures, training of new staff, maintaining appropriate statistics, and assisting with Quality Assurance projects. Also participates in the education to improve self and others, and attending staff meetings and annual educational in-service as required.
Recovery:
5. Able to Care for patients in Phase I and Phase II of recovery, assessing the following: vital signs, pain level, level of consciousness per protocol.
