Registered Nurse Newborn ICU

Job Description:

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care of patients. The staff RN utilizes the nursing process by use of technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice and coordination of care with other health team members.

This is a shared position with SLC PCH NICU and Lehi Miller campus NICU. The goal behind these shared positions is to allow for a wider variety of patients and experience in SLC.

The initial orientation will all be done in SLC, so 3 days per week for at least 8 to 12 weeks. Then we typically move staff down to Lehi 1 day per week, working 2 days a week in SLC while the complete the continuing education of the unit.

Lehi is a level 3B NICU and perform some surgeries but not all. They don’t support cardiac patients or ECMO there. The NICU has 8 beds and is a Level II Trauma Center who provides essential pediatric services in an exciting new location. We’re thrilled to partner with our Salt Lake Campus, which is ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the United States, providing specialized care for more than 1 million children living in a 400,000 square-mile service area and beyond.

PCH SLC NICU is a level IV NICU and a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center which is ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the United States.

Two hundred medical specialties care for nearly 500 babies each year in our beautiful new unit with 51 private room beds. More then 65% of our babies are unique to our PCH NICU – meaning the care cannot be provided anywhere else in Utah or many of the surrounding states. We offer amazing education in the areas of Cardiac, Respiratory, Surgical, Neurological and VLBW and ECMO care for the variety of patients we see. Shift Details: full time, 36 hours a week, rotating shifts (days, nights, weekends), self scheduling every 8 weeks, 12 hour shifts

Minimum Qualifications
Current RN License in state of practice.
- and -
Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.
- and -
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.


Preferred Qualifications
One or more years of RN experience is highly preferred. If you are a new graduate RN or a RN with less than one year of RN work experience, please apply on the new grad positions​
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

Physical Requirements:

Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.

Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.

Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- and -
Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
- and -
Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).

May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$34.19 - $50.73
