We are currently seeking an experienced NICU Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This is a full time night shift position.
Position Overview
Our labor and delivery staff have specialized experience in childbirth support and newborn care. The Women's Services unit is composed of 6 labor rooms, 2 ante partum rooms, 18 postpartum rooms, 3 triage beds and 8 NICU bassinets. We also have a certified lactation consultant on-staff to assist when needed.
Responsibilities
Based on nursing assessment, collaborates to create, modify and re-prioritize patient plan of care as necessaryRecognizes and reports changes in the patient's clinical condition. Identifies actual and potential health problems and their implications based on observed data/signsRecognizes implications of abnormal diagnostic tests and follows through (lab, NST, OCT, US, x-rays/scans, vital signs)Proficient at Gestational/Age Maturity Rating Scale, Neonatal Abstinence Scoring, breast/bottle feeding, Glucose Protocol, bathing and daily care, oxygen setup, discharge teaching/planning, circumcision care/teaching and PKUPromptly identifies and interprets subtle and early indicators of crisis situation and intervenes (e.g. recognizes patient changes when precipitous delivery is imminent and prepares for deliver)Proficient with equipment specific to nursery, radiant warmers, incubators, Bili lights, bili blankets, Spacelabs and Dinemapp vital signs machines, scales and pulse oximetersDemonstrates competency to manage all areas of emergency nursing involving different body systems within age specific criteriaResponds to additional unit needs during crisis and coordinates neonatal transportDocuments findings and communicates all pertinent information to interdisciplinary team members as appropriateProvides education to patients/families/significant others, incorporating age-specific criteria and assessment of readiness to learnPerforms Point of Care procedures in a timely manner according to established policy and procedure. Documents required information and complies with all Point of Care quality control standardsDelegates appropriately to non-licensed staff in accordance with job descriptions, license requirements, and standards of practiceParticipates in developing other staff and affiliating studentsDemonstrates willingness to Cross-train and/or assist other areas of the hospital accepting assignments within competency level, as neededOther duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited RN program. Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferredCurrent license as a Registered Nurse in Texas, or licensure from a state within the Nursing CompactCurrent American Heart Association (AHA) approved Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 days of hireMinimum 2 years of NICU experience required
