Salary Range: $45.48 - $62.70

Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Director of Perinatal Services. Plans, coordinates and implements patient care for primarily obstetrical, and mother/baby patients.  Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice. Remains flexible to changing systems. Treats patients, families, visitors, peers and physicians with consideration and respect.

Follows guidelines and practices identified in the Employee Handbook.  Participates in continuous quality improvement activities and projects.  Successfully completes hospital-wide annual skills, and unit specific competencies. Complies with annual PPD testing.  Maintains responsibility for own professional development.

Position Duties/Responsibilities:

Demonstrates proficiency in the care of patients in Labor & Delivery, Postpartum and Nursery after appropriate orientation to each area. Maintains ability to perform competencies within each area as assigned and completes review of competencies annually. Demonstrates the knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Is able to interpret data about the patient’s status to identify each patient’s age specific needs and to provide the care needed appropriate to the patient’s age group. Demonstrates proficiency in performing low level cleaning of equipment and gross decontamination of instruments. Maintains the competency to don and doff PPE for Infection Control measures when performing gross decontamination of instruments. Successfully completes OB BETA Risk Initiative assignments, upon determined deadline. Supports other nursing units by floating when needed after appropriate orientation.

Essential Functions:

Maintains nursing license following the Scope of Practice for Registered Nursing.  Demonstrates the ability to function as a team member within the unit and the department. Demonstrates the ability to have positive personal interactions with staff, patients, visitors and physicians. Accepts appropriate supervision. Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.

Position Qualifications:

Education: ADN or Diploma in Nursing Program.  Current State of California Registered Nursing License.   Certifications: BLS through American Heart Association, ACLS required within 6 months of hire, NRP required within 6 months of hire, S.T.A.B.L.E. certification recommended. Completion of (AWHONN) or (ACOG) endorsed Fetal Monitoring course that includes National Institute of Child Health Development (NICHD) nomenclature within three months of hire, to be renewed every year.  Experience: At least 1 year of previous experience in the acute care setting is preferred.  Previous Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and/or Nursery experience highly preferred. Past work experience appropriate to current position may be evaluated. New graduates will be considered and are encouraged to apply. Skills/Ability: Current knowledge of the care of the LDRP and mother/baby patient population.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Computer skills preferred.  Exhibits the ability to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy.  Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.
