Registered Nurse - Oncology Research Team Lead

Position Summary:

Provides daily work direction to research site staff members at multiple sites within a designated department. Promotes the development of research site staff, which may include RN’s, Specialists, and Coordinators. Contributes towards meeting department goals, continuous improvement of program operations, and provision of services. The Research Team Lead utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation utilizing critical thinking in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, recognized professional standards and Park Nicollet policy.

The Metro-Minnesota Community Oncology Research Consortium (MMCORC) is a nonprofit research program sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and participating hospitals and clinics. We are a consortium consisting of 25 community hospitals and oncology clinics with over 160 physician members in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro-area and surrounding communities, extending to the western Wisconsin area.

Our programs mission is to bring the advantages of cancer research to the community. MMCORC provides the opportunity for patients and physicians to have access to National Cancer Institute (NCI) and pharmaceutical sponsored clinical trials for all types of adult cancer.

This position will provide team leadership to the MMCORC community sites located in Coon Rapids, Fridley, Robbinsdale, St. Louis Park, and Minneapolis with the potential need to travel to other local sites. Looking for a candidate with strong research background in Oncology.

Directs and monitors the daily operation of research site staff members across multiple sites within a designated department. 30% Work with staff to develop recruitment and implementation strategies and tools, identify key investigators, and facilitate problem solving. 30% Assists with coordinating research staff orientation and staff development programs. Mentors new and existing staff as needed and in partnership with the Site Manager. 20% Assists in the development and implementation of new services, programs and procedures for clinic departments. 5% Provides input on clinical research staff performance and yearly performance reviews. <5% Ensures appropriate site coverage is maintained through the use of regular and float personnel if available. <5% Performs other functions as assigned. <5%

 

ADDITIONAL DETAILS:

Supports the development of research staff for assigned roles. Works with mentors to coordinate orientation schedule and material for new research personnel. Assists with the development of and updating of competency orientation checklists. Provide general and 1:1 training in collaboration with identified mentors and Site Manager to assure completion of new staff orientation. Assess ongoing learning and staff development needs and identify and/or provide resources to meet those needs. Interview new research personnel and assist Site Manager and Director in hiring decision making and process. Provide input on staff performance appraisals as requested by Site Manager/Administrative Director.

 

 

Assist with serving as a liaison between the MMCORC site staff, investigators and the research bases/sponsors, and communicating clinical research-related information. Triage patient, physician and staff problems and requests to facilitate communication and resolution of issues/requests. Review and respond to NCI, Contractor or Research Base's reports and requests. Communicate research base/sponsor protocol and patient-specific information to MMCORC staff and investigators. Review all data query, accrual, and delinquency reports and other quality control systems and provide feedback to staff, Program Managers, Site Managers and Administrator. Work with staff to develop recruitment and implementation strategies and tools, identify key investigators, and facilitate problem solving. Assists with site utilization of the Clinical Trials Management System – CTMS (CREDIT): Assist with ensuring full utilization of CREDIT by site staff. Utilize a team approach to contribute towards the continuous improvement of program operations and provision of services. Assist in planning, implementation, and evaluation of program expansion and new projects. Attend and participate in staff and strategic meetings. Assist in the establishment/updating of department policies as appropriate. Perform special projects and tasks as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

BA, BS, AD, in Nursing from an accredited college or university, current RN licensure in the state of Minnesota plus three to five years of experience as an RN.

Requires three years of Oncology experience. 

• Proven informal leadership skills in organizing and leading projects.
• Ability to work independently and to exercise good judgment and apply problem solving skills in performance of duties.

• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills
• Understands and applies teaching/learning principles.

• Strong prioritization, multi-tasking skills and ability to handle large workload.
• Intermediate level computer/keyboarding skills required, including but not limited to email, word processing, spreadsheets and Outlook.
• Demonstrates knowledge of age-related growth and development principles necessary to provide appropriate service and ensure safety of patients.
 

Current state Registered Nursing License required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Leadership experience preferred.
