Registered Nurse - Postpartum
Introduction :    Aspen Medical has an exciting opportunity for Registered Nurses who specialize in Pediatrics, to partner with us in providing temporary contracted medical services to Military Treatment Facilities throughout the United States. Today’s posting will place you at the primary location of Madigan Army Medical Center. Hospital: Madigan Army Medical Center Location:   United States, Joint Base Lewis-McCord (JBLM) Tacoma, Washington Minimum Qualifications: + Degree /Education: A diploma, Associate, Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate in Nursing from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) from a professional nursing program at the time the program was completed by the applicant. + Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support : Neonatal Resuscitation Provider + Experience : One year of qualifying experience in the specialty is preferred + Licensure : Military, civil service, and contract personnel, who require a license, certification, and/or registration to perform their duties must maintain a current, active, valid, and unrestricted license or other authorizing document such as a certification or registration from any U.S. jurisdiction (DOD 6025.13-R). A license is a grant of permission to a health care professional by a recognized licensing agency of a State; the District of Columbia; the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the United States (U.S.) Virgin Islands; or other territory or possession of the U.S. to provide health care within the scope of practice for a specific health care discipline. (Army Regulation (AR) 40-68) Core Duties:   + Provide comprehensive professional nursing care to postpartum mothers and neonates. Experience caring for postoperative patients. The RNs are responsible for mothers and infant(s) throughout the tour of duty, have extensive knowledge and experience, and have the skill for concentrated effort and self-motivation to carry out patient care requirements + Obtains patient history, pertinent family history, and advanced medical directive information. Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress and assists physicians during treatments and examinations; administers medication and prescribed treatments, completes admissions and discharges, and promotes convalescence and rehabilitation, RNs are responsible for monitoring and interpretation of collected data by the LVNs and unlicensed assisted personnel informing the medical staff as appropriate + Functions as a patient advocate. Assesses patient/family knowledge level develops and implements a plan of instruction and documents demonstrating a level of understanding. Assessment plans will be targeted at age-specific needs. Each nurse will manually and/or electronically document all patient care given and the progress of the patient utilizing the MAMC documentation standards in the patient's medical record + The RN assesses the patient and plans for appropriate nursing care. The care provided is documented in the patient's medical record along with their progress. RNs also develop and manage nursing care plans; instruct patients and their families in proper care; and helps individuals and groups take steps to improve or maintain their health + Communicates pertinent patient information to the charge nurse and/or physician as appropriate, The RN verifies the transcription of physician orders + Administers medications and blood products with the knowledge of actions and usual dosages of commonly used drugs. Medications shall be administered within the scope of nursing practice and include intravenous, subcutaneous, oral, transdermal, rectal, and intramuscular. Each nurse will know actions, adverse effects, interactions, and dosages, For RNs only: Anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs are excluded unless contractor's employee has obtained appropriate documented education in cancer chemotherapeutic drugs and administration + Performs a vast array of direct patient care procedures to including but not limited to range of motion exercises, lifting, turning, transporting, and positioning patients, personal hygiene care, changing linen and clothing, and feeding patients + Manages care of patients for a wide range of procedures of an advanced nature and difficulty where there is a high risk for infection and bodily functions arc mechanically assisted by life support equipment + Manages and ensures proper procedures are followed with the tissue/Skin bank and blood bank + Registered nurses shall provide professional oversight for licensed practical nurses and unlicensed ancillary personnel. Plans and implements care with the collaboration of other healthcare providers, Calls report to the appropriate unit/ward, and provide pertinent data such as surgical procedures performed, patient problems, nursing diagnoses and actions, patient response, specialized care, and equipment necessary to support the patient + Performs duties by establishing infection control protocols + Responsible for quality assurance/risk management and responds to breaches of standard procedures that compromise the patient or staff members. May also serve as a project officer for select committees and participate in research projects that are consultative in nature and involve shared information or data gathering for new or existing technologies + Nurses who will assist in providing conscious sedation must have conscious sedation training provided at MAMC before providing conscious sedation + Registered Nurses shall utilize comprehensive knowledge of workload requirements in conjunction with knowledge of the composition and capabilities of assigned staff, to distribute/redistribute personnel resources in response to unforeseen patient care needs + Attends and participates in patient nursing reports, patient cant conferences, team/unit/clinic conferences, discharge planning, and staff conferences as deemed appropriate by administrative officials + Demonstrates the ability to manage interpersonal relationships and maintain composure and reacts appropriately while relating to patients and families; manage distraught, irritable, unreasonable, or angry individuals; and to maintain positive rapport with all individuals involved in patient care + Demonstrates the ability to react with alertness and skill in any emergency, e.g., cardiac or respiratory arrest, hemorrhage, shock, severe physical trauma, and psychiatric reaction, Initiates life-saving measures in the absence of a physician, Depending on position and protocol may serve as a member of the resuscitation or emergency code team + Assesses patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises and distinguishes between normal and abnormal physical findings; initiates life-saving measures in the absence of a physician. Knowledgeable of the pharmacology of most commonly used emergency drugs, anticipated results, usual dosages, and their location on the crash cart. Capable of emergency equipment operation: defibrillator, EKG machine, cardiac monitor, and other equipment as determined by MTF, unit/clinic, and position + Participates in discharge planning as appropriate and convenes multidisciplinary patient care conferences to address complex medical/nursing care needs Hours of Performance/Schedule: Hours of Performance/Schedule: The performance (duty) hours of the MTF are as follows: Duty hours will vary by position and location; however, typical duty hours are scheduled between 0700 -1700, Monday through Friday. Hours are subject to change and may include nights and weekends. In the event, the HCW is required to work beyond their scheduled duty hours for any reason, the duty hours will be adjusted within the current pay period; the HCWs shall not work more than 40 hours per week. The performance (duty) hours are as follows: Buckley Space Force Base, Monday through Friday, 0730-1630.
