Shift: Midnights 7:00 pm to 7:30 am with alternating weekend schedule
UNIT OVERVIEW:
Our 20-Bed combination Surgical Step-Down /Cardiac Telemetry Unit offers specialized care for patients transitioning from intensive care to a lower level of monitoring and support prior to their release. Nursing care on this typically required advanced nursing interventions and continuous cardiac monitoring/vascular monitoring appropriate for a step-down unit, as they progress toward their discharge.
Our multidisciplinary team provides high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive environment, facilitating recovery and preparing patients for a safe discharge. We prioritize team collaboration, communication, education, and accountability to enhance outcomes and patient experiences. These components also contribute to a fulfilling work environment where nurses can develop their clinical skills and critical thinking with the support of their peers and their immediate leadership.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team on a 20-bed Surgical Step-Down/Cardiac Telemetry Unit. This unit specializes in providing care for patients transitioning from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) to a lower level of monitoring. Patients in this unit typically require advanced nursing interventions and continuous cardiac monitoring as they progress toward discharge.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Patient Care:
+ Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for surgical and cardiac patients.
+ Perform continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring and interpret rhythms to ensure patient safety.
+ Monitor and assess patients’ conditions, documenting changes and implementing interventions as needed.
+ Administer medications, treatments, and interventions in compliance with physician orders and hospital policies.
+ Provide wound care, post-operative care, and education for surgical patients.
+ Collaboration and Communication:
+ Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and the multidisciplinary care team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
+ Educate patients and families about treatment plans, medications, and discharge instructions.
+ Participate in daily rounds to discuss patient progress and transition planning.
+ Unit Support:
+ Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient unit environment by adhering to infection control, safety, and quality standards.
+ Assist with onboarding and mentoring new staff as needed.
+ Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and unit performance.
+ Documentation:
+ Maintain accurate and thorough patient records using the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
+ Ensure proper documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, and outcomes.
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Provides leadership in the coordination and delivery of quality compassionate patient care. Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation, to provide, delegate, supervise and document care and teaching of patients and family. Effectively communicates pertinent patient/family information to health care team. Participates in finding solutions for variances from patient goals and ensures implementation of solutions.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
+ BSN preferred.
+ Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
+ Clinical knowledge and analytical abilities necessary to formulate effective nursing care plans.
+ Ability to perform a wide variety of professional nursing services.
+ Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families, and hospital personnel.
+ Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience preferred. Experience is preferred in a step-down, cardiac telemetry, or ICU setting.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:
+ Current licensure by the Michigan State Board of Nursing.
+ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.
+ Telemetry certification or demonstrated competency in telemetry monitoring.
