About the Unit

The Behavioral Health unit at RCH is a licensed 40 bed unit for Acute Behavioral Health Patients. We typically fill 32 of those beds on an average day. This units serves adults across the lifespan with a variety of mental health disorders including: Bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, and substance use disorders. We work with a multidisciplinary team to create treatment plans that address both acute and chronic mental health issues. Nurses on this unit work together as a team, facilitating groups, and helping patients achieve desired outcomes. Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Registered Nurse (RN) position is responsible for delivering exceptional nursing care to patients by:

Utilizing strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient statusImplementing clinical nursing interventionsHaving a highly diverse medical skillsetDeveloping and performing patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomesEnsuring a safe and therapeutic environment

Essential Functions: 

Provide direct patient care according to the provider’s prescribed plan of care (and nursing scope of practice) while closely monitoring progress/recoveryAssess and documents the patient’s conditions and report changes as needed Administer medication, insulin, and IV/fluids, documenting thoroughlyInspect and care for wounds, changing dressings and assisting with personal hygieneApplies effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patient and/or family/significant other that is necessary to plan and implement the treatment planAssess patient for further injuries, infections, bedsores, etc. and deliver appropriate treatmentsCollaborate with providers, aides, and allied health professionals to ensure exceptional patient outcomesOther duties as assigned

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelors degree in Nursing

Certifications:

Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart AssociationPALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (required for Pediatric BH Units)

Experience:

One (1) year of professional experience practicing as a Registered Nurse (RN)Recent Behavioral Health experience (preferred, not required)

Training:

EPIC Electronic Health Record training (preferred, not required)De-Escalation Training (preferred, not required)
