Summary of Primary Function
Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient’s problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care; coordinates, provides and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.

A Cardiac Stress Test Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for the overall patient care and safety during cardiac stress tests. Key Responsibilities: Patient Preparation & Education:Prepare patients for the stress test procedure, including patient interviews and obtaining medical history.Educate patients about the stress test process, potential risks, and pre-procedure instructions (e.g., holding certain medications).Performing & Monitoring the Test:Supervise and administer various types of cardiac stress tests, including Exercise ECG Testing, Stress Echocardiography, and Pharmacological stress testing.Monitor patient vital signs, ECG readings, and symptoms throughout the procedure.Recognize and interpret cardiac arrhythmias.Identify EKG changes suggestive of cardiac ischemia.Implement the ordered exercise protocol.Operate relevant exercise equipment.Patient Care & Management:Administer medications as needed, including emergency medications.Triage and assess outpatients who develop symptoms of chest pain or distress.Implement emergency measures as indicated to optimize the patient's respiratory and circulatory status.Communicate with physicians and other healthcare team members regarding patient status and test findings.Provide post-procedure instructions and education to patients and their families.Documentation & Equipment Management:Document patient care and test results accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).Maintain and troubleshoot stress testing equipment.Collaboration & Leadership:Collaborate with cardiologists, technicians, and other healthcare team members.Serve as a resource to physicians and caregivers.Promote a safe environment for patients and staff.                                                                                                                                            

Essential Job Functions
In collaboration with the interdisciplinary care team, conducts initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzes assessment data, creates a plan of care, implements treatment and evaluates treatment effectiveness; administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and organization policies and procedures; serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.  Acts as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.  Incorporates the professional practice model into care delivery

BLS Basic Life Support, American Heart Association (required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at BSMH)


Valid nursing license from the state of practice (required)

Education
Associate of Nursing, nursing (required)

Diploma in Nursing (required)  
Bachelors of Science, nursing (preferred)
