POSITION SUMMARY:  The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for managing the individualized patient care by promoting and restoring patients' health through the nursing process; collaborating with physicians and multidisciplinary team members; providing physical and psychological support to patients, friends, and families; and supervising assigned team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  

1-Conducts an individualized patient assessment, prioritizing the data collection based on the patient’s immediate condition or needs within timeframe specified by policy along with collaboration with other members of the healthcare team. Monitor patient’s condition and assess their needs to provide the best possible care and advice.

2- Performs appropriate treatments and administrations of medication, immediate and ongoing, as ordered by provider in an accurate and timely manner.

3- Performs therapeutic nursing interventions and delivery of care with appropriate age and cultural competence as established by individualized needs/plan of care for the patient and their family.

4- Provides individualized patient/family education customized to the patient and his/her family.

5- Documents patient condition, assessment findings, and physical/psychosocial responses to nursing intervention and progress towards problem resolution.

6- Initiates emergency resuscitative measures according to adult resuscitation and advanced life support protocols.

7- Maintains confidentiality as well as providing care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the patient’s and family’s diversity, preserving their autonomy, dignity and rights.

8-Observe and interpret patient’s symptoms and communicate them to providers and other staff during shift change.

NON-ESSENTIAL/MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:

Perform other duties as assigned.Maintains current competency in nursing specialty by completing mandatory education.Inspect the facilities and act to maintain excellent hygiene and safety (decontaminating equipment, sanitizing surfaces, preparing beds etc.).

REQUIRED/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION:

-Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN). Degree received from an education institution accredited by National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

EXPERIENCE:

- Previous experience in an acute care setting.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

-Current and in good standing RN Licensure with South Carolina Board of Nursing.

-American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational Development on a case-by-case basis).  BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

-Works with patients, families, physicians, and other health care providers.

-Must be proficient in using Electronic Health Record (EMR) for patient-level care and coordination.

-Must possess excellent verbal communication skills.

-Must have ability to collaborate with others to improve quality and address needs.

-Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN). Degree received from an education institution accredited by National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand, sit, and walk; occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) to use hands, fingers; and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert 20 to 35 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 15 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
