Inova Fairfax Medical Campus is looking for a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow to join the Labor and Delivery Unit and High Risk Perinatal Unit for the August Cohort.
This role will be full-time night shift from 3x12 hour shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Registered Nurse Fellow (RN) Job Responsibilities:
• Achieves patient outcomes and enhances experience through focused, integrated care delivery.
• Practices in assigned settings, meets program objectives, and applies new knowledge under direct RN supervision.
• Performs patient assessments to collect data, following care plans, guidelines, and pathways under supervision.
• Uses assessment data and patient preferences to identify care needs.
• Organizes, prioritizes, and delivers patient care using Inova’s Nursing Professional Practice Model.
• Monitors patient progress and adjusts care plans to achieve outcomes.
• Provides compassionate, empathetic care while ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.
• Bases clinical decisions on knowledge, principles, and evidence-based practices.
• Works efficiently with the healthcare team to achieve productivity and outcomes.
• Documents patient care activities accurately, seeking assistance to improve documentation skills.
• Actively participates in multidisciplinary rounds and team meetings.
• Integrates novice nursing abilities with new knowledge to deliver safe, high-quality care.
• Seeks resources and validation from healthcare team members to enhance clinical practice.
• Open to feedback, mentoring, and suggestions to improve care.
• Attends all learning sessions, completes assignments on time, and applies knowledge in clinical settings.
• Willing to learn new skills, demonstrate reasoning, and use equipment for effective care.
• May serve as a preceptor after completing orientation and competency.
Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow Additional Requirements:
• Work schedule: August 2025 Start Date | Full-time Night Shift: 3x12 hour shifts per week, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. | 8 hours of on call per 4 weeks | 3 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
• Experience: Required 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse, for Critical Care units, 1 year of experience as a Registered Nurse in a critical care setting or completion of a critical care fellowship.
• Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start | For Critical Care Units: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - Within 6 Months | For Pediatric Units: Pediatric Advanced Life Support- Within 6 Months | For Infusion Center Units: Obtain chemo card- within 3 months of hire
• Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
Registered Nurse (RN) Fellow Preferred Qualifications:
• (BSN) Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Recent (within the past year) Registered Nurse (RN) experience on an inpatient unit
