Inova Fair Oaks Hospital is seeking a full-time Inpatient Lactation Consultant RN. Current IBCLC certification is strongly preferred.
Schedule: This is a part time position with day and evening hours, 24 hours/week.

The Inova Lactation Consultant:
The Lactation Consultant will work with patients at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital, located in Fairfax, Virginia. Our team is committed to provide superior, personalized, and compassionate care to our patients, their newborns, and families.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Provides lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
• Evaluates patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
• Performs consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
• Offers post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
• Provides lactation support to all patients in sometimes very challenging clinical and psychosocial circumstances, which may include bereavement of baby or post trauma recovery.
• Serves as an advocate for the patient at all times, communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, .
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience:
• A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting
Minimum Education Requirement:
• Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date.
Minimum Licensure/ Certification Requirement:
• Certification as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) or achieved IBCLC within 1 year of hire.
• Current VA nursing licensure or eligible for VA nursing licensure
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
Preferred Qualifications:
• Current IBCLC certification
