Neonatal RN Position Summary

The Neonatal RN provides nursing care for neonates who are sick, premature, with low birth weight or at high risk for becoming sick. This includes infants 32 weeks gestation and above and 1500 grams and above. As a Level II nursery, Neonatal RNs provide care for infants who may require nasal cannula, CPAP, SiPAP, and can care for ventilated infants up to 24 hours. Neonatal nurses can maintain peripheral IVs, central umbilical catheters, chest tubes and occasional PICC lines. The Neonatal RN is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care utilizing ANA Standards and the Nursing Process. The RN acts as a patient advocate. The RN provides support, information and direct care and utilizes equipment and technology skillfully and is technically competent in nursing procedures. The Registered Nurse educates patients and families on significant self-care issues. The inventory, distribution/delivery of medications may be required.

Neonatal RN Position Requirements

Licensed and currently registered to practice as a Registered Nurse. Must hold a license in the state of permanent residency.  American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) PALS

Neonatal RN Work Schedule

May be assigned to day, evening, or night shifts or a combination per departmental policy. Scheduled off at least three holidays per year. Required to work weekends per unit need. Expected to work overtime on occasion.
