POSITION STANDARDS
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred.
Experience working in a clinic or hospital setting; surgical/specialty clinic experience preferred but not required.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage at all levels of the organization.
Demonstrate a professional and adaptable demeanor with internal and external clients, including administrators, physicians, peers and support staff.
Demonstrate the ability to work as a team.
The ability to work with minimum supervision, set priorities, and follow through to accomplish results.
Current BCLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
Current ACLS certification preferred.
Current NH State RN license required.

PART TWO: FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
Position Objective Provides high quality patient care in an outpatient surgical clinic in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act and the Patient Bill of Rights. Acts as resource for providers, patients and support staff regarding clinical and administrative support decisions. Works closely with Clinical Nursing Supervisor to continuously improve processes and systems that support efficiency and excellence in patient care and education.
Performance Expectation Utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation in order to provide care to the patient. Performs patient care using an integrated approach that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of errors. Triage of clinical calls and questions; performs assessment of patient needs and provides clinical advice within scope of license; schedule emergent patient appointments. Completes accurate and comprehensive documentation and routes to providers appropriately for review. Knowledge of medications and correct administration based on patient and their clinical situation. Follows the seven medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. Prescribe medications upon provider order or per protocol. Perform prior authorizations for drug approvals as needed. Accurately enter data into the EMR system and reconcile medications. Assist the provider with minor office or hospital procedures that may include excisions, wound and drain care, dressing changes, suture, cast, and splint removals, vasectomies, cystoscopies, and injections. Proficient in sterile technique. Tracks surgery and procedure bookings to obtain medical clearance and ensure patient safety. Follows protocols and identifies other necessary pre-procedure testing or consults and discusses with provider. Monitors and tracks diagnostic results and alerts providers of abnormal values including, but not limited to, all pre-surgical testing and anticoagulation therapy. Provide pre-op and post-op education for patients and families; documents the patient/family response. Develop, review, and revise written protocols and educational materials as necessary. Serves as the patient liaison to other services and caregivers; coordinates and organizes the care of patients. Written and verbal communication is effective. Confidentially is maintained in accordance with APD’s policies. Ability to think critically and problem solve. Demonstrates critical thinking skills, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems. Proficient with EMR system; properly documents all patient care and other necessary information in the patients record. Documentation is done timely and in accordance with APD guidelines. Delegates task to other health care team members appropriately. Demonstrates an ability to organize and prioritize all job functions. Performs other duties as assigned.
