Vancouver Coastal Health is looking for a Registered Nurse to join the In-Patient Surgery Unit at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC as an Surgical Support Nurse. Apply today to join our team!

 

As an Surgical Support Nurse with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:

Act as an auxiliary support for clinical care staff to enhance patient care at transitions in care by providing nursing care to patients as guided by clinical and operational priorities.Provide patient care at admission, discharge and transfers between care areas and facilities.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

 

Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Two (2) years’ recent, related clinical experience in the designated clinical area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.Knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.Demonstrated ability in nursing practice related to designated patient group.General of knowledge Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches and Strengths-based care.Demonstrated ability to promote Indigenous Cultural Safety.Demonstrated ability to provide competent and culturally safety care in a variety of settings and with diverse populations.Ability to plan and implement plans of care in relation to patient/family priorities.Ability to utilize internal and community resources.Demonstrated ability to anticipate and respond to potential complications and care issues relevant to the designated patient group.Demonstrated ability to work autonomously in discharge planning with team members.Ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Ability to manage aggressive and suicidal behaviour.Demonstrated ability to engage in conflict resolution in situations involving patients, family, staff, and other members of the health care team.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to counsel and teach patients and their families based on their priorities.Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to the clinical area.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Ability to operate related equipment including applicable software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
