Registered Nurse (RN) - Trauma Acute Care Surgery

Inova Fairfax Hospital is looking for a dedicated Experienced Registered Nurse to join the Trauma Acute Care Surgery team. This role will be full-time day shift from Monday – Friday (including some weekend shifts), 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance eligible.

Inova Fairfax Hospital's Trauma Acute Care Surgical Unit (TACSU) is the first of its kind at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus; a hybrid designed 6- bed Trauma Intermediate Care area and a combined 18-bed Trauma Telemetry & Trauma Medical/Surgical unit. The unit is equipped and capable to adapt to the volume and acuity of 3500 annual trauma patients received at the Inova Trauma Center; adjusting the appropriate level of care needs within the TACSU. Patient populations will include but are not limited to: General trauma, Traumatic Brain Injury, Orthopedic trauma and acute care surgery cases. The average nurse: patient ratio for the Trauma Step-down is 1:3 and 1:5 for the Trauma Telemetry & Med Surgical patient population. The Trauma Step-down clinicians will work very closely with its sister unit, the Trauma Intensive Care Unit to facilitate a smooth transition from the highest acuity to the next level of care and to ensure a comprehensive continuum of care to our trauma patients and their families.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma Acute Care Surgery Job Responsibilities:

Performs comprehensive patient health assessments by interpreting multiple data sets and synthesizing their relationships. Formulates individualized plans of care based on assessment findings and interpreting trends in patient populations to achieve best practice. Conducts all patient care in a patient and family centered manner, integrating knowledge, skills and experiences to meet the needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care. Advocates for patients' rights from the patient and family perspective and provides counsel while acting as a resource to resolve issues. Accesses resources from all disciplines to achieve desired patient outcomes and coordinates healthcare and alternate services for patient/family transition planning. Documents all patient care activities, as per documentation standards, and assists healthcare team members with documentation.   Evaluates the process to achieve outcomes, anticipates patient variances and makes revisions to plans of care. Makes clinical decisions based on experience, patient population data and intuition while promoting the development of clinical decision making of all team members.

Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma Acute Care Surgery Additional Requirements:

Work schedule: 3 12-hour shifts (Monday – Friday {including some weekend shifts} days, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.) Education: BSN from an accredited school of nursing. If RN has an associate’s degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. Experience: Requires a minimum of 1-year Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting. Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start.

**Previous experience in: Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Intermediate Care, and Progressive Care is strongly preferred.**
