REGISTERED NURSE

SUMMARY

Reports pertinent observations, changes, and reactions regarding patients to the appropriate person (physician, manager, charge nurse, supervisor, etc.) Records these observations, changes and reactions accurately, concisely and legibly.

Plans, implements and documents health teaching with patient and/or significant other.

Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing needs. Based on those conditions and needs, develops and implements individual plan of care with revisions as patient’s condition and needs change.

Maintains the standards of nursing care within the guidelines of the nursing department.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing. Specialty units may have additional requirements according to their policy. Specific skills for his patient care unit which the staff member must demonstrate knowledge and competence include:

Care of the patient requiring detoxification.

Care of the substance abuse patient.

The 12 Step Recovery Program

Use of individual and group therapy techniques/dynamics.

Support groups available for patients and/or significant others.

One year of experience in Medical Surgical Nursing and prior experience in treatment of substance abuse and 12 Step Recovery Program preferred. The desire to work towards or possess Certification in Chemical Dependency Nursing is encouraged.

Current State Nursing License.
