Registered Nurse TeleCritical Care
Intermountain Health
**Job Description:**

• Camera into patient rooms
• EMR chart review
• Code recording
• Medication assistance
• Patient and staff education
TCC RNs will virtually camera into patient rooms and act as real-time clinical decision support, in collaboration with the bedside staff, on conditions that require emergent and non-emergent intervention. TCC RNs will monitor between 40-45 patients per shift in Critical Care units across the Intermountain system and Intermountain west. TCC will support bedside staff in providing care that is compliant with established best practices.
TCC RNs will use varied electronic medical record programs, electronic alerts and audio-visual technology to extend clinical expertise and support critical care staff in optimizing care delivery.
TCC RN’s will have direct impact on patients within Intermountain and other affiliated hospitals and clinics through the following mechanisms:
• Clinicians caring for critical care patients in the hospital will have immediate access to consult with an ICU physician, nurses, APPs, pharmacists, and respiratory therapists regardless of day or time.
• Care plan and quality bundles will be routinely monitored to provide highly reliable compliance and timing in critical care delivery.
• Patients with mild critical illness will be able to remain in their community and receive the level of sophisticated expertise and care they need, limiting transfers to a tertiary facility to the right patients at the right time.
• Facilitation and coordination of transfers out of critical care, leading to improved facility throughput.
• Improved patient satisfaction as patient feels safer through enhanced team coordination.
The TCC unit operates 24 hours a day/7 days a week with rotating 12 hour shifts starting at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Serves as a leader and mentor to RN staff in the hospital and ICUs, working closely with the bedside staff and TCC team. The TCC RN is responsible for ensuring evidence-based practices are being followed. The TCC RN maintains the APACHE IV database for all Intermountain ICU patients. The TCC RN uses a excel spreadsheet to document patient encounters focusing on active treatments (ventilators, vasoactive drips, dialysis, ECMO, etc.). The TCC RN will round on their assigned patients virtually every two hours, detailed review of the EMR, connect with the charge nurse and bedside ICU RN early to identify concerns, needs and acuity levels, and serve as an experienced resource for any ICU concerns or needs.
The successful TCC RN is someone who can effectively navigate complex patient care issues utilizing chain of command, established policies and procedures and conflict management skills. These skills are typically demonstrated through ability to lead a team of clinical professionals through the successful resolution of conflicts and/or emergent patient care issues.
