Job Description

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is a regulated health care professional who is accountable and responsible for providing quality patient focused nursing care to patients. As part of the inter-professional health care team, the RPN will practice according to the nursing practice expectations set by Osler, the regulatory practice standards of the College of Nurses and the legislative requirements set by the Regulated Health Professions Act. The successful candidate will report to the Clinical Services Manager.

Accountabilities:

Safe nursing practice in all aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient careAccurate and timely documentationCompliance with policies and procedures associated with observationsProviding professional, patient-centred care to promote patient safety as well as physiological and psychological well-beingProviding care in a compassionate and caring manner within a diverse cultural environmentAdhering to the infection control and prevention measuresResponding to emergency situations by recognizing changes in patient's health status and consulting appropriately when necessaryParticipating in transfer of accountability at the beginning and end of all shiftsProviding health teaching to patients and families to ensure a smooth and safe transition into the community

QualificationsRecent experience working with rehabilitation and geriatric patients requiredFunctional Independence Measure certification is required or must be acquired within six months of hireExperience with G-tubesRecent experience with wound care, enteral feeds, IV therapy, blood collection and isolation required

Current registration, and in good standing, with the College of Nurses of OntarioSound knowledge of nursing process, theory and responsibilities to the nursing professionBCLS requiredMedication administration certificate and patient assessment course required for RPNs graduating prior to 2005Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, conflict-resolution and decision-making skills requiredDemonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an inter-professional teamDemonstrated ability to incorporate inter-professional recommendations into patient care practicesDemonstrated knowledge of patient and family-centred careDemonstrated experience with patient and family health teaching requiredDemonstrated leadership and facilitation skills requiredDemonstrated excellent customer service, organizational and critical-thinking skills requiredDemonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development as it applies to the profession and related fieldDemonstrated ability to work in a stressful environmentAbility to prioritize patient care needs and make autonomous decisionsExcellent physical assessment skills requiredAbility to promote a healthy work environment and practice excellent client safety guidelinesKnowledge and understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety ActMust demonstrate Osler's Values of Respect, Excellence, Service, Compassion, Innovation and CollaborationMay be required to travel and work between all Osler sitesExcellent attendance, punctuality and work record

Additional Information

Currently days/nights, 12 hours including weekends and statutory holidays (subject to change in accordance with operational requirements)

Salary:
Minimum: $35.29 per hour
Maximum: $38.16 per hour
