**Job Summary and Qualifications**
Under the direction of the modality Supervisor/Manager, Director of Medical Imaging, and Staff Radiologists, the Multi-Modality Technologist is responsible to safely and proficiently perform imaging procedures and related patient care according to, government regulations, physician orders, policies and procedures of the Medical Imaging Department, and policies and procedures of the hospital in a minimum of 2 imaging modalities. Technologists must work at least 25% of their time in more than one modality to qualify and must exhibit a willingness to be flexible in working in all modalities in which they are trained.
**What you will do in this role:**
+ Understands and follows established radiation safety rules. Always uses appropriate radiation safety devices to protect self, others, and the patient.
+ Explains procedures to gain patient confidence and cooperation. Keeps patient informed of progress during procedures. Remains at the control station during the scan keeping the patient under constant observation.
+ Consistently produces diagnostic quality procedures without assistance or supervision. Uses good judgment in seeking assistance or supervision when it is needed.
+ Consistently uses correct department protocols. Shows ability to adapt imaging routines to special imaging situations. Has a good working knowledge of general cross-section anatomy.
+ Understand tube heat precautions and considers technique load on tube in various modalities.
+ Consistently positions patients correctly and safely on imaging table.
+ Uses appropriate patient immobilization devices to prevent motion and repeat procedures.
+ Takes necessary repeat images without waiting to be told that they are necessary and without attempting to turn in poor images.
+ Takes appropriate precautions to prevent patient falls or injury. Insures that unstable patients are not left alone on imaging tables.
+ Properly sets up patient, supplies, and equipment before summoning radiologist to begin a biopsy or guidance procedure. Assists radiologists as needed during procedures. Is able to anticipate the radiologist’s needs and have previous films, supplies, and equipment ready for immediate use.
+ Has good working knowledge laser printer and film processor.
+ Can perform all types of procedures independently with quality results.
+ Follows routine contrast dosage exactly. Consults radiologist is special situations to insure appropriate dosage and injection rate.
+ Uses contrast injector cautiously to prevent infiltration. Always observes patient carefully during contrast injection. Knows contrast reaction procedures.
+ Accomplishes radiation therapy procedures as required. Can archive and retrieve image data as needed.
+ Can produce high quality E.D. trauma films quickly while working around others during periods of high stress where speed is required.
+ Can adapt to positioning limitations and communicate effectively to acquire necessary cooperation and assistance from the E.D. staff or others assisting.
+ Insures the use of lead aprons by all Staff and Family members in the room.
+ Performs all imaging procedures in a efficient and professional manner. Effectively communicates with patients to gain their cooperation.
+ Understand radiology equipment error codes. Contacts service company when necessary
+ Returns all equipment to its proper storage locations. Cleans up room as needed after each procedure.
+ Never leaves for home, lunch, or break, without communicating same to coworkers. Always finishes exam in progress before leaving department or obtains appropriate tech relief.
+ Consistently uses correct lifting techniques and obtains assistance when needed to prevent employee or patient injury when moving a patient to or from a wheelchair, bed, stretcher, or imaging table. Transports patients in a safe and responsible manner.
+ Insures that patients are not left unattended in imaging rooms if they present any risk of falling or being injured due to their observed age, physical, mental, or emotional condition.
+ Understands sterile technique and takes action as necessary to prevent the contamination of sterile equipment or a sterile field during a procedure.
+ Wears gloves, mask, eye shield, and gown when appropriate and always disposes of sharps, body fluids, contaminated supplies, and contaminated linen in the proper manner.
+ Insures that necessary supplies are readily available before starting procedures and keeps supply stocks neat and organized including linen.
+ Participates in rotating shift, call and holiday coverage to provide continuous availability of Imaging services. Arrives at hospital within thirty (30) minutes of callback.
+ Takes time to physically look for tubes, catheters, wires, restraints, IV’s and other medical devices before attempting to move or transport patients. Has full knowledge of various hospital bed controls and checks for necessary slack in patient wires or tubing before changing bed position.
+ Takes personal responsibility to insure the functional integrity of patient life support equipment or other equipment that must be moved or temporarily disconnected when working with patients. Checks with co-workers or the nursing staff to obtain appropriate instruction and operational knowledge before handling unknown equipment. Informs nursing staff if the function of such equipment is compromised so it can be corrected immediately.
+ Always insures that patient bed rails are up, restraints are in place, IV pumps plugged in, catheter bags are hung, the patient is covered, and the nurse call button is within easy reach before leaving a patient returned to their room. Takes time to communicate patient or family requests for assistance to the nursing staff before leaving the nursing unit.
+ Follows age related protocols regarding radiation protection, exam preps, contrast dosage, consents, and patient education. Considers age, language, mental competency, and emotional state of patients when giving procedure instruction to insure understanding.
+ Uses hospital equipment safely and responsibly without excessive force. Reports broken equipment, malfunctions, or observed hazards to supervisor.
+ Understands and adheres to the hospital patient restraint policy. Understands restraint policy in regards to patients being restrained without their permission during imaging procedures to insure patient safety and quality imaging. Exercises good judgment as to persons and/or means chosen to restrain patients. Makes quality effort to gain the patients confidence and cooperation before restraining.
**What qualifications you will need:**
+ Graduate of a 2-year accredited school of Radiologic Technology
+ Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
+ Diagnostic Medical Sonographer must be obtained within 60 months of employment start date
