Regulatory & Public Affairs Head

The opportunity

This position will be conducting/managing policy analysis, government and stakeholder engagement, advocacy and thought leadership programs to build trust among government officials and stakeholders and create a favorable business environment for our business in the Philippines. The position will be based in Makati City.


Responsibilities

Work closely with Head of RPA Asia and the senior leadership team in the Philippines to build the market-specific RPA strategy, create and execute concrete and feasible plans to support our life insurance, wealth and asset management business in the Philippines and the arising business opportunities.

Build and strengthen relationships with Manulife’s key stakeholders in the Philippines including policy makers, regulators, industry associations and think tanks to raise Manulife’s profile and reputation as a trusted and responsible foreign investor and industry leader.

Work closely with Asia Sustainability team to support the roll out of Manulife’s ESG efforts in the region.

Conduct analysis on key political, major public policy and regulatory changes related to our business strategy and development in the region.

Support Global/Asia/Ph market CEOs’ in-market government/stakeholder engagement programs and attendance/ speaking roles in high profile conferences and forums and help prepare briefing notes and provide input to speeches as required and appropriate.

Work closely with Legal & Compliance team and business teams to support regulatory approvals for licenses and transactions.

Work with Legal & Compliance team in Asia and the Philippines on in-market advocacy initiatives linked to opportunities and impediments to Manulife’s business, as well as policy thought leadership programs such as joint research/seminars with the policy makers, regulators and industry associations on key issues/themes in line with Manulife’s business strategy and the markets’ top policy priorities.

Develop and maintain close working relationships with the regulators, policy makers and key stakeholders.

Work with Ph senior leadership team, Legal & Compliance and communications team in addressing and managing crisis posing regulatory and/or reputational risks to Manulife.

Build and maintain relationships with key regulatory authorities to influence policy decisions and advocate for the company's interests.

Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on regulatory compliance and public affairs matters.

 Anticipates business and regulatory issues and recommends product, process or service improvements and/or solutions

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will have at least 7 years’ experience in government and/or public affairs.

Undergraduate and/or master’s degree in economics, finance, political science, international relations is preferred, knowledge of the financial (especially insurance and/or asset management) industry would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated ability to quickly understand the issues facing Manulife and the insurance/wealth and asset management industry and be an effective problem-solving partner with business teams in the markets.

Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in English and Filipino.

The proven ability of teamwork and partnership, self-motivated, flexible, adaptable, detail and results oriented.

Ability to prioritize and balance competing issues and direct resources accordingly under pressure to meet tight deadlines.

Strict adherence to confidentiality and exhibiting a high level of professionalism at all times.

Strong coordinating and project management skills to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of projects.
