Accommodation is available upon request for candidates taking part in the selection process. **Reinsurance Treaty Underwriter - Toronto** **JOB SUMMARY:** Our AXIS Re Canada branch is positioned to pivot to a Specialty Reinsurer. As a result, we are looking for a talented underwriter to join our expanding team of dynamic reinsurance professionals. As a key member of the team, focused mostly on the Casualty book, you will work with reinsurance brokers, Canadian cedents and the AXIS team to maintain the renewal book as well as identify and develop profitable opportunities. The role will report to, and work directly with, the Head of Underwriting – Canada, AXIS Re. Through working closely with the Head of Underwriting – Canada, there will be ample opportunity for personal and professional growth. In addition to the Canadian market, the underwriter will be exposed to the global reinsurance market and expected to coordinate with our London, Zurich and USA offices. Beyond underwriting, you will also be responsible for assisting with strategy, building relationships, shaping the portfolio, and advancing the company’s brand. **KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:** + Underwrite and manage a book of casualty treaty business. Potential business includes quota share, per risk, cyber, and MGA produced business. + Originate, underwrite and cost casualty treaty business in compliance with the appropriate guidelines and within allocated authority while conforming to best practices and focusing on efficiency in approach. + Build and maintain broker and client professional network to support profitable business origination through the Canadian broker market. + Track industry and market developments and raise these for strategic discussions with clients including a considered view as to how AXIS Re might help the client navigate the changes. + Participate in underwriting audits and monitoring of account performance. + Travel to service customers and attend industry conferences. + The level of responsibility may be tailored to the experience of the individual candidate. + Flexible work week with anchor days in the office. **REQUIRED EDUCATION/TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:** + A Bachelors or Master’s degree is required + F.C.I.P., ARe or other industry designations are preferred + 5+ years of relevant experience in progressively advancing underwriting roles in the (re)insurance industry and/or in the (re)insurance brokerage sector. + Strong industry relationships and well respected by reinsurance brokers and insurers is desired. + Working knowledge of actuarial and pricing concepts. Experience partnering with actuarial teams to price and structure reinsurance treaties. + A thorough understanding of the underlying business. + An understanding of policy forms, contract wording and pricing schemes. The individual should also understand the role and impact of claims, actuarial, accounting, and finance in the underwriting process. + Excellent marketing skills are required to develop and maintain relationships with reinsurance intermediaries and customers. + Preference for strong broker and insurer contacts, with excellent understanding of the Canadian insurance/reinsurance markets. + The ability to converse in French is a strong attribute. **REQUIRED SKILLS:** + Strong focus on identifying client needs and flexibility in developing solutions + Enthusiasm for new business opportunities and the desire to think creatively + Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills + Acts strategically and exhibits an entrepreneurial mindset + Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage peak period workflows + Ability to work in a demanding environment and effectively lead change + Effective strategic relationship management and portfolio management skills + Highly collaborative and versatile; with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. + Desire to grow and embrace AXIS’ culture of continuous learning and development We encourage you to bring your own experience and expertise to the table, so while there are some qualifications and experiences, we need you to have, we are open to discussing how your individual knowledge might lend itself to fulfilling this role and help us achieve our goals. **Role Factors:** Location is the Toronto office, working a hybrid schedule of three days in the office.
