SummaryJob Duties:
This classification covers employees engaged in performing the highest type of independent or cooperative work in the skills indicated below. Such employees must be thoroughly familiar with the Company's safety rules and the general rules for operation of PSEG Long Island's electric system as they apply to his work.
Having a thorough working knowledge of construction, operation and application of all electro-mechanical and solid state electronic relays, including carrier current, audio and r.f. frequency transfer tripping equipment, and the theory of their operation.
Having a good working knowledge of all types of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, load control, metering and telemetering systems involving digital and/or analog principles, techniques and solid-state discrete and integrated circuits.
Having a good working knowledge of high-speed (4800 bits per sec) digital data transmission principles and servicing techniques on all types of communications channels.
Having a thorough working knowledge of phase and vector relations for current and voltage and the application of this information in analyzing and interpreting phase angle readings obtained at all types of relays and instruments.
Calculate single phase and three phase KW, KVAR, KVA and power factors given system voltage, current and phase angle readings.

Read and interpret complicated plans, drawings and specifications.
Must have the ability to diagnose and correct difficulties and faults.
Must be capable of preparing written reports and sketches.
Instruct and train lower grade personnel in working methods and safe work practices.
Working alone or with others, performs the following under the general supervision of relay engineers or supervisors:
Applying manufacturers' instructions for testing, adjusting and maintaining equipment within his classification.
Reading and analyzing prints, analyzing and interpreting test results, installing, inspecting, testing, adjusting, maintaining, repairing, checking and correcting wiring, and investigating questionable operations, of all types of relays, instrument transformers, metering equipment, and telemetering equipment, load Control equipment, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) equipment, and oscillographic equipment with their associated wiring and auxiliary devices.
Plan and coordinate work with other groups as required.
Must have the ability to diagnose and correct difficulties and faults, analyze and interpret test results, read and interpret schematic, functional, logic diagrams and wiring prints associated with all the equipment for which the Protection Division has responsibility.
Must be capable of preparing written reports and sketches.
Must be able to discriminate as to circuits and equipment required to be cleared in order to safely conduct the work and execute the necessary switching operations in acordance with a duly authorized switching order.
Having and using a thorough knowledge of the Company's Safety Rules and "General Rules for Operation of Electric Equipment and Lines".
Must be capable of working on energized equipment without causing interruptions to service.
Setting, testing, calibrating adjusting and repairing all types of protective relays.
Perform similar tests as above on all primary system reclosers. These reclosers may be equipped with mechanical, hydraulic, Pneumatic, electrical and electronic control mechanisms.
Perform all necessary system operational tests to insure proper functional performance of complete protection, control, telemetering, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
Perform minor capital installation work from sketches or instructions on protective or control circuits as required to expedite the correction of circuit design deficiencies or to quickly satisfy system control.
Years of Experience Job Qualifications Associates Degree from an accredited college in Electrical Technology or Electronics or honorable discharge with an ET (Electronics Technician rate) from the Military. Applicants will need to provide a copy of their degree and a copy of their official college/military transcript. Possession of a valid US driver's license in good standing. Must pass a written screening exam. The successful candidate will be required to work overtime on an as needed basis and participate in the Emergency Restoration Program.
