Release of Information Spec

Summary

The Release of Information Specialist is responsible for releasing information from the patient’s medical record within the guidelines of hospital policy and state and federal statutes related to medical records, HIPPA, and release of information. This position is responsible and accountable for safeguarding the confidentiality of the medical records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

These duties and responsibilities described below represent the general tasks performed on a daily basis.  Any other duties as needed to drive to the vision fulfill the mission and abide by the values of the organization.

Confirm data accuracy of Patient Demographic within Athena Confirm data accuracy of Patient Demographics within Epic Confirm Patient Insurance Data is entered into Athena Correctly. Confirm Patient Insurance Data is entered into Epic Correctly. Confirm Patient visit note is in media tab in EPIC and is assigned under CRMG. Review inpatient daily patient census to assure HOPD patient has not been admitted to the hospital within 3 days. Review all inpatient patients for the day prior and affirm patient demographics are in Athena.   Responsible for fulfilling all audit requests for medical records in a timely and proficient manner from providers. Maintain current and accurate record of daily workflow Understand and use the department computer system in an effective and proficient manner Attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services Demonstrate a commitment to flexible work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care Registration of patient in Epic, including demographics, and insurance information Scheduling of patient appointments in Epic Scanning and uploading patient’s encounter summary into Epic Will handle Medical Request and Audit controls for registration and medical records between Athena and Epic.

Education and Experience

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Education: AssocAssociate degreeealth Information Technology/Billing Data Entry

Experience: 6-month experience in the Health Information department/Billing Data Entry of an acute care facility

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Qualified candidates will have experience with data entry and chart review.
