Overview Perform and support testing as required to assure the quality and reliability of Garmin products using specialized equipment, devices, and instrumentation. Maintain and assure the integrity of test records to provide an effective system of recall and re-verification. Aid in the design and development of test methods and fixtures to support product and component testing and inspection. A strong mechanical aptitude and desire for continuous improvement is required for this role. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Perform testing as assigned according to determined test plans or instructions. Coordinate with other lab personnel to ensure test consistency and reliability Perform detailed inspection of products and materials to assess pre- and post-testing conditions Accurately and completely record, log all test data and results using defined record keeping procedures including written test reports as required. Review test requirements and coordinate with Engineering associates to develop test and inspection methods for evaluating the reliability and quality of Garmin products and subcomponents Interface with engineering to aid in the design, development, and fabrication of mechanical fixtures for use in testing of Garmin products and subcomponents. Notify engineering team of any conditions felt as being undesirable or inaccurate for parameter measurement or of any procedures or testing methods that cannot be performed as documented Review, evaluate, and respond to inquiries regarding testing in a prompt and professional manor Use MCAD software to model basic parts and components including CNC machined and screw machine fabricated parts, sheet metal, weldments, mounting systems, etc OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Follow appropriate safety guidelines and material procedures Maintain effective work areas where performing work to products, or parts thereof, to provide for: operator safety, and assurance from product damage or contamination that could be caused by any foreign materials such as Electro Static Discharge (ESD) producing materials, food or drinks Perform other job-related duties as assigned BASIC EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED: Technical Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, or Manufacturing Technology or equivalent Strong and effective verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills, with strong customer service mindset. High degree of dexterity and eye coordination, to allow manipulation and handling of small and delicate parts, fixtures and test equipment Possess a continuous improvement mindset High mechanical aptitude, able to “dive in” to repair fixtures and test system Strong math and measurement skills to allow for effective review of mechanical drawing parameters as well as ability to convert English/Metric units of measure and calculate tolerance limits Demonstrated computer proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook Ability to safely lift and manipulate up to 55 pounds DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Understanding of Geometric Tolerancing Previous experience in a test, quality, or engineering lab environment Experience in electrical or electromechanical system repair Proficient knowledge of CAD software and basic mechanical design with the ability to model parts Experience with Automated Test Stations, data acquisition systems, vibration test-analysis equipment, and other electronic and mechanical diagnostic equipment Experience with environmental test equipment including temperature, humidity, vibration, and water ingress Experience with prototyping and fabrication methods such as 3D printing, CNC mill and lathe, and injection molding Experience performing requirements based on ad-hoc test Company Information At Garmin Canada, we create more than just products – we inspire solutions and innovations that change and shape how we live, work and play.
