HyCO Hydrogen Plant Relief Operator – This will be an introductory operations role that will be expected to learn the basics of hydrogen plant operations, outside shift logs, duties and requirements to support operator shift vacations.  This will require flexibility in covering day, night and weekend shifts, generally with at minimum two weeks’ notice for when coverage is needed.  This position has the potential to move into a regular Operations Technician role based on the selected candidate’s aptitude, work ethic, and ability to learn and contribute positively to the site’s safety, performance and reliability.  During weeks when minimum or no vacation coverage is needed this role will work with the operations and maintenance team on daily tasks.  Expectation is that this role will work approximately 40 hours per week, this could vary depending on shift coverage required.  Matheson is seeking a candidate who’s looking to learn and grow as an operator that is willing to accept responsibility to be proactive and innovative in solutions to ensure efficient plant operations and a safe work environment.
Position Accountabilities
1. Obtain the knowledge base required to operate and maintain the process of a steam methane reformer and related equipment associated with the process, understand the plant's water chemistry to assure proper operations and equipment functioning.
2. Monitor the process and outside related equipment.  This includes making rounds, completing logs sheets, water sampling, oil and chemical transfers and maintaining housekeeping.
3. Be safety conscious; i.e. meetings, work area cleanliness, eliminate hazards when noted, etc.
4. Develop ability to interpret Piping & Instrument Drawings to understand process operations, equipment and aid in trouble shooting system anomalies.
5. Demonstrate mechanical aptitude, evaluate equipment performance and maintain appropriate records.
6. Follow company work policies to promote a safe work environment that encourages active participation and timely reporting of all incidents and unsafe conditions.
7. Participate in regular and shutdown maintenance activities and updating of plant equipment and work instructions.
8. Apply the Work Permit process, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) and energy isolation procedures as required for company and contractor personnel.
9. Good communication skills with all team members, vendors, safety and management teams, etc.
10. Assist with starting / stopping the plants in a safe manner as dictated by operating conditions and business needs.
