Reporter
Reporter, Dow Jones Newswires in Singapore Dow Jones Newswires seeks a reporter to cover Asian banks and funds managers from our APAC hub in Singapore. At a time when fund manager allocations to the region are rising at a rapid clip, Newswires is seeking a reporter with a proven track record of scoops and source-building, who will get inside the big financial bets that are shaping asset classes across the region – from equities to fixed income and commodities. The reporter will be expected to break news on capital flows, fund manager moves and conduct exclusive interviews with bank executives and regional fund managers in order to chronicle how strategies shift in response to major global events. The reporter would join our APAC regional hub in Singapore, where they will also be expected to contribute to our daily global news report. This part of the job includes identifying important, forward-looking details from a fast-moving stream of information related to regional banking and fund management. The foundation of this new beat will be turning that disclosure into informative, punchy headlines and short articles in English. Another major part of the role would be to quickly analyze news and the signals it provides to investors. This takes the initial form of short, quick-fire analysis, followed by slightly longer-form articles and/or analysis that include more detail, and extends to more expansive and thematic items in due course. Accuracy, speed, excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume news environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important. Excellent written English is essential. Candidates don’t need to have specific experience covering banks or fund managers. Ideally, they will have some knowledge of what to look for in bank earnings statements and releases, and some familiarity with economic data, financial markets and regulation, and a strong interest in these areas. This is an exciting opportunity to write market-leading breaking news for Dow Jones, the global authority in business journalism and publisher of The Wall Street Journal. You will: + Break news – big and small scoops that will drive professional readership interested in this subject to our Newswires. + Be able to tap existing sourcing or demonstrate an ability to build sourcing in the interest of breaking news. + Exercise exceptional news judgment to identify disclosed news of importance to professionals, with ability to efficiently prioritize and summarize into smart briefs and subsequent analysis of what the news means for investors, extracting from a wealth of available content. + Recognize and respond to the core audiences for Dow Jones Newswires, and their needs and expectations. + Collaborate with reporters and editors from other groups, including Dow Jones Newswires, WSJ and other colleagues and those in other bureaus and regions. + Communicate precisely and with compassion. + Uphold Dow Jones standards and ethics. You have: + A well-honed sense of urgency along with a capacity to remain calm under pressure. + The ability to prioritize tasks and time while handling multiple responsibilities. + Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn. + Flexibility in changing/handing off tasks. + General awareness of how a newsroom works. + A solid sense of teamwork. + A minimum of two-three years relevant experience \*LI-JA1-WSJ Reasonable accommodation: Dow Jones, Making Careers Newsworthy - All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, protected veteran status, or disability status.
