About the Department

The Research Analyst will join a dynamic lab investigating the genetic basis of evolutionary innovations in both model and non-model organisms, including zebrafish and sea robins. The lab operates year-round at the University of Chicago, with an exciting summer field season at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA (https://www.mbl.edu/). This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in laboratory management, animal husbandry, and independent research using molecular biology and genetics, while working as part of a collaborative research team.
This position will begin March 1, 2025.

Job Summary

The lab operates year-round at the University of Chicago, with an exciting summer field season at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA (https://www.mbl.edu/). This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in laboratory management, animal husbandry, and independent research using molecular biology and genetics, while working as part of a collaborative research team. This position will begin March 1, 2025.

Responsibilities

Oversee lab management, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventories, and keeping the lab organized.

Perform fish husbandry, ensuring the care and well-being of research organisms.

Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, genetics, or a related field.

Experience:

Previous laboratory research experience (e.g., molecular biology, genetics, or animal husbandry) is highly preferred.

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Analytical thinking and attention to detail.

Willingness to learn new techniques and engage in hands-on research.
