The Idaho Transportation Department currently has an opportunity for aResearch Analyst, Principal at our Headquarters office in Boise, ID. The position’s primary purpose will be to monitor/oversee contract research funded through ITD’s Research Program to ensure methodologies are sound, data sets and data analysis are accurate, and research conclusions and recommendations are well supported. The position will also be responsible for working with staff to develop research project ideas and for developing, tracking, and preparing statistical reports detailing project and program performance against established measures. This position will also serve as a Subject Matter Expert for technical writing and formatting of research reports and manuals.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Coordinate development of research project ideas/research requests
+ Researches and selects information systems/sources to be used for research.
+ Identifies appropriate areas of research based on needs assessment or direction from management.
+ Establishes methods and procedures to assure quality of data collected.
+ Consults with officials of state and federal agencies and private entities to coordinate development and design of research projects.
Analysis of data and development of report of findings
+ Identifies erroneous or questionable data and contacts providers to verify and correct.
+ Reviews and updates data ensuring output is consistent with research.
+ Analyzes data and interprets trends and results of studies and develops conclusions.
+ Compiles and disseminates research results in formats appropriate to various users and makes oral presentations of findings.
Monitor/oversee contract research projects
+ Provide training and guidance to ITD staff serving as project sponsors and project managers for research projects.
+ Regularly communicate with ITD-staff serving as research project managers to monitor progress on active research projects.
+ Assess whether research methods used by contract researchers are appropriate, the data sets are accurate and complete, and data analysis is performed properly.
+ Participate in the review of project deliverables such as databases, software, and technical tools developed for department use through research projects.
+ Review draft and final reports to ensure that research findings and conclusions are adequately supported by the data and data analysis.
+ Coordinate tracking of research project and program performance.
+ Coordinate required annual federal reporting for research projects.
+ Develop and maintain performance measures for individual research projects and the Research Program overall.
Information management
+ Develop and maintain ITD research-related publications and archival materials.
+ Distribute ITD research reports to other agencies/libraries as directed by FHWA.
+ Perform literature searches and obtain research reports requested by ITD management and staff.
+ Coordinate ITD participation in surveys received from other state DOTs.
Technical writing
+ Review/edit research reports to ensure they comply with program formatting requirements.
+ Prepare technical briefs and articles for research projects.
+ Prepare updates for the Research Program webpage.
+ Assist staff with technical writing projects such as development and updates of guidance documents/procedures manuals and websites.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
+ Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of modeling and trend analysis and simulation techniques.
+ Planning, developing, and implementing complex research and statistical projects and presenting the results.
+ Using and interpreting output of a statistical analysis software package.
MQ SPECIALTIES

+ Strategic planning concepts and practices.
+ Experience that demonstrates considerable knowledge of multivariate parametric and non-parametric statistical analysis, modeling, trend analysis and simulation techniques.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
+ Knowledge of sampling theory and probability theory.
+ Knowledge of modeling, trend analysis and simulation techniques.
+ Knowledge of sampling theory and probability theory.
+ Bachelor’s degree with coursework in research methods, statistics and/or data analysis.
+ Experience with data management and data analysis software including database and spreadsheet programs, statistical packages, and programs for developing and administering surveys.
