Research Analytical Chemist - Asphalt Full-Time in McLean, VA - FHWA Genex Systems is looking for Research Analytical Chemists to support the Chemistry Laboratory at the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center (TFHRC) in McLean, VA. Position Duties + Research projects on highway-related materials, including designing and conducting experiments, analyzing results, and proposing future research goals. + This work includes the investigation, analysis, and interpretation of the composition of pavement materials, mainly asphalt and concrete, using spectroscopic techniques (Raman, FTIR, and XRF) + Assisting the Laboratory Contract Manager by providing timely feedback on the status of the projects. + Helping to publish FHWA reports, peer-reviewed journal manuscripts and conference papers. + Developing and presenting results at conferences and professional meetings. Required Qualifications + Master of Science in chemistry, materials science, civil engineering or related field Preferred Qualifications + Knowledge of pavement materials + Experience with spectroscopic techniques, e.g., Raman, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Analysis, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of asphalt binders, as well as other techniques like XRD and ICP.
